Me myself and Jide

Jide isn't just my friend he was my best friend.

We didn't just became friends we were meant for each other.
Only one person could tell us apart.

There is a bond that can't be broken, a bond as strong as the chain of amistad, you will never understand this if you don't have the experience of sharing a cord with someone. That person doesn't become a part of your life rather is your life.

We were fond of each other and were together from the moment he made us, the only time we were separated from each other was on the night of May 10th 1978 but after that night, we remained hooked to each other like junkies hooked to cocaine.

We like the same thing, supports the same cause, hates the same thing, admires the same thing,keeps the same company. Infact, we feel just the same way and reacts the same way to every situation.

Then came our defining moment.

Only our mother could tell us apart.

We shared everything in common.

I was the cool one between us and always suffer for Jide's wrongs. There were series of situations during our secondary school days. One time, he had an issue with a prefect and I was mistaken for him when the prefect came for him.

Another incident was with the music teacher, she saw me walking in front of the music lab then pulled me and started yelling at me for missing her class then had the audacity to pass in front of the music lab.

Our years in the university was not different and there was this particular incident with Oge. She used to be our crush because we feel the same thing and desire the same thing, she didn't know that we were twins.

And this became our break.

It's a thing of joy when it's this way.

There’s another person out there, looking exactly like you.
And that accidental wrong kiss.

Our dream was to date identical twins but it was hard finding twin girls so we ended up dating two sisters but Uche always complained that Amaka was her junior sister and this became a big challenge for us so we decided not to take the relationship with the sisters serious so we kept searching for the right pairs and even had our close friends searching too.

Jide was the one that first saw Oge, he went to the new mini mart with Amaka to buy beverages that day, he noticed the way the sales girl was looking at him and knew that there was something in her eyes. Catching a girl's eyes direct on us wasn't a new thing but three days later, I went to buy groceries in the same mini mart with Uche and saw the same sales girl staring at me but a look at her revelled that she was not happy. It was all over her because she wasn't jovial as Jide described.

She asked us if we were siblings and in defense, Uche told her that I was her boy friend. She smiled and you could see that she wanted to say something but held back then we made payment and left. I also noticed something in her eyes, the way she was looking at us as I waked out with Uche wasn't customer-friendly, (I don't know if it's the right word) but there was something in her eyes and it's fire. You don't see that kind of eyes all the time and as far as I can tell you, it's always in the eyes.

The heart is so big but playing with it could be dangerous.

Finding your way into someone's heart is great but staying is a task
People sometimes don't know when it's just fun.

That is what Oge failed to understand as we kept playing with her mind. When she asked me about the two girls that occupied me to the shop I knew that she was ready to date me, she wanted an assurance so i told her that they were my sisters and not girl friends. Girls prefers to be lied to so I gave her the answer she wanted to hear. We had our turn on her and she never knew that she was actually talking with two guys. I will call her on phone then Jide would be the one to walk her home. This continued for months because she was actually the stubborn type and wasn't ready to compromise but it was a matter of time.

But sonehow the whole thing took a different twist because i started falling in love with her and that was what got Jide pissed off because we both wanted to have her, yes she wasn't the first girl we both had but there was something special about Oge. Something Jide failed to understand and he wasn't ready to let go because he was also deeply in love with her. Sometimes you get yourself into something you don't know how you got into and getting out becomes very dangerous but we must get it right so we decided to reveal ourselves to her because we didn't want to hurt her.

The plan was for me to pick her up for a date, then Jide would be waiting in the restaurant, we wanted to do it this way, although it might make her look stupid having kissed two different guys for moths and was even close to doing it once. No it wasn't with me, it was with Jide the day they went hiking. Her feelings was our concern but we needed to let her know the truth and were both ready to accept whatever consequence. She was excited that I will take her to her favorite restaurant so she agreed and chose Sunday evening. I arrived at their house to pick her but got the shock of a lifetime.

One thing about life is desire

Another is accomplishment
But the greatest of all is discovery.

Even our close friends and relatives finds it difficult to tell us apart and one of the things we enjoyed most was playing with people's mind. Many a time, we have been mistaken for each other by even the closest person to us and when it comes to our girl friends, well you can imagine what usually happens when two naughty twins are out for fun. But Oge meant the world to us and how we ended up caring about her feelings was what I can't describe so as I approached their front door, I composed myself and knocked at the door.

I saw the power of love in her eyes the moment she opened the door then she hugged me and initiated this deep kiss, the kind of kiss only Juliet could give Romeo, i felt like it was not going to end then she released herself and smiled at me. Although this was unlike her but I guess she was in love with me and wanted to show me how much she appreciate me. Poor girl, she don't even know that I am not the good guy she felt I am. She walked me into the living room and I heard her say this...' Oge your boyfriend is here'.

I lost my breath looking at both of them then one of them asked me if I was surprise. Why won't I be surprise I questioned as I demanded an explanation and got the shock of my life. You see, these girls are the 'baddest'. Oge and Ogo are identical twins and had been playing on us. They both had their turns on us. It was even Ogo that went to the cinema with me one time and not Oge. Wonders shall never end I shouted as we stood gazing at each other. Oge found out that I wasn't Jide, God knows how she figured that but instead of protest, she set a revenge by playing along with her other half. It took me about an hour to put myself together then we decided to invite Jide to their house and this happened.

Jide got to the house that day and ever since then, we never got separated. We actually tied the knot in grand style five years later. Oge and Ogo are beach lovers so we had our wedding reception in a beach. Ogo is the tigress between the two and Jide is the stallion between me and him so figure out the match. One of the things that happened on our wedding day was Oge's insistence that they should write their own wedding vow.

I couldn't help it when Oge spoke...

My darling Ofodile, remember the very first day we met at the shop? Well, our second meeting was actually what caught me because I figured out that you were soft unlike the first day, your voices told you apart and you were mischievous so from that moment I knew that you were naughty and it's been my dream for me and Ogo to marry two naughty twins.

I knew that you were The One, the one I MUST spend my life with so I figured out the best way to keep you forever and it matured that day in the house when the four of us laughed for hours.Our courtship has been the happiest period of my life because, in that time, you became not just my lover and companion, but also my other half.

I want to be your lovely wife, your companion and your best friend for the rest of my life. I promise to love and cherish you, to keep you close and, with faithfulness, to be your support and help in times of need, to make you laugh and to hold you whenever you are down and to always show you the respect and honor you so deserve until I close my eyes on this Earth
