Message to a Daughter

Updated on August 5, 2016

To My Daughter

Dear Sherry:

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

That's why it holds for us an abiding fascination.

Tomorrow will soon come our way,

In the meantime, live for today.

Find happiness - even if it's a small amount,

In all the little blessings that you can count:

Good health, a good life, a great place to live,

And all the joy having a loving family can give.

Look at what you have, not at what you do not.

So what if you don't have gold, you have the pot…and pans…and dishes...

and glassware…and silver…etc.,etc.,etc.

Life is too short to worry about the morrow.

Enjoy this moment, focus on gaiety, not sorrow.

And always remember, wherever you may be,

Somebody loves you to pieces and that someone is me!

Live for the day is so true. You never know if tomorrow will ever come, or if it will even be a full day. We take life so for granted sometimes it boggles the mind since it happens to be the most precious thing we have.

This is wonderful advise from a loving mother to a loving daughter.

Maybe if you look up in the sky

You may see a poem passing by

Not to make you sad or make you cry

But, like you said, writers must write

It's just not the same without her. She always left a poem when she visited my hubs. I know you will treasure her poem to you. Wonderful!

I think it's all the more joyful that you only found it recently and can "hear" her saying the words to you. How fortunate you were to have her as both your mother and BFF. She did give so much of herself and her warm humor and positive nature to everyone. Thanks for sharing this with her many, many HP friends. Jaye

This is so like her! Full of positivity and good sense. Warm and caring. She was and still is beloved by so many. I appreciate your sharing this and can feel the love for you she expressed, Sherry. When I saw this announced in the new hubs, I couldn't wait to get over here and read it.

Thank you all for your kind and thoughtful comments. I don't know when my Mom wrote this but I found it among her things and was so very touched. She is still with me and will never be forgotten. She was the best mother and BFF. B.J. brought joy to everyone that knew her and you walked away feeling good about yourself.

Thanks for sharing the letter in the form of a poem to your daughter. She is blessed to have you as a mother just as you are blessed to have her as a daughter.

I don't know when this was written, but I'm so glad you shared it with us today. What more could a mother want for her children but happiness?
