Misunderstandings -Textured meanings and layered renderings - Haiku collection

Sofs loves writing poetry. She is also fascinated by the workings of the mind. This poem was written years ago and is now being revisited.

Misunderstandings -Textured meanings and layered renderings

The line between imagination and reality is as fine as the line between the spoken and the recieved message . Words are often interpreted by individuals from their personal point of view, colored and textured by their own thought processes and workings of the mind. The meaning of the rendered word could be so different from what is understood, assumed and interpreted or misinterpreted. Fiction and reality could often follow the same path, reality could easily blend into fiction and influence thought and action by rendering something that is a figment of one's imagination into something very real. This is perhaps why no fiction is far from reality and no reality further from fiction. This being so, misunderstandings are bound to happen when perceptions differ. Perceptions color and layer our thoughts and interpretation of the rendered word. It's indeed a great virtue to seek to understand than to be understood. The world would be a happier place if we could make the effort.

This haiku on misunderstanding aims to depict the process and fallout of misconstrued words.

Words hastily misconstrued,
Time moves on, broken,
Unspoken pain within!

Colored by perceptions,
Wounded souls remain!

Layered meanings,
Real and imagined words,
Textured renderings!

Mind seeking its own,
Souls and spirits atone,
Disjointed lives!

In silence suffers
Impatiently violated Truth,
Until divulged!

LOL you are pretty active tonight, I should say, thanks for the endorsement. Loves does all things, it is no wonder they call love blind... being blind to the faults of others..what a beautiful world it would be, if we could only take the time to understand and see the other person's point of view. I appreciate the read and the comments my dear, thank you and God Bless!

How nice & how true! And I am thankful to a lot of my dear friends and loved ones who ignore potential situations & continue to show affection, granting me the benefit of doubt. I guess love & trust pushes us to do this? Nice one..,Happy new Year & wishes for a fruitful hubyear(new name?)

Russ Baleson, Thank you for your kind words... listening is the keyword, are we listening to the emotions and the tone of voice... but with the written is even harder I guess.. ..

Beautifully written haikus Sofs. And so true, It is so easy for words to be misinterpreted, especially the written word because you don't hear the tone of voice or see the facial expression. And even when spoken sometimes you know, we only hear what we want to hear.

Have a wonderful Christmas and all the very best for 2012

Dear Ruby, thanks for the endorsement. You are right my dear, one only needs to ask for a clarification to clear up the misunderstanding. but. often both sides wait for the other to take the lead... this is the season of forgiveness and peace.. and the best thing to do this season would be to make peace. God Bless and Merry Christmas to you and yours and wish you the best in 2012.. Cheers :)

Hi, I like thi, a great topic to focus on and well worded. We all live in our own worlds, in our heads, and see through our values, perceptions and colourings. It takes effort to ensure we connect with clarity and the starting point is to make sure we are listening to understand others' perceptions before trying to be understood.

This is a thought provoking Haiku. Misunderstandings can cause needless pain. If we don't understand something, it's easy to ask the meaning. Nine times out of ten, it's cleared up without hurt feelings...

Tim, you are right we are all guilty... but the difference may only be in the willingness to sort things out...the need to ask before we assume... understand before we interpret...slow to anger and slow to speak.. in anger.. A small action but would make a huge difference. Thanks buddy for the endorsement and you know I always value your opinion... God Bless and cheers!!

Ah..misunderstandings. Unfortunately, we're all guilty of these at one time or another. Your haikus have succinctly nailed it on the proverbial head. Nice going, buddy :)
