Money (Poem)

Updated on August 22, 2012
Our lives rely on
Worthless paper
Precious metals
Debts and favors

We depend on
Jules and riches
Prices and bargains
Hopes and wishes

The time we've wasted
Creating a foundation
Paying attention
Complying with taxation

All we ask
Is for a home of our own
A sense of pride
For respect to be shown

When will we receive a reward
That isn't a physical object
Something that means more
Than pay for someone else's projects

How long will it take
To find wellness
Amongst our brothers and sisters
Climbing out of distress

When will the day arrive
That we count ourselves even
Embracing the poetry of life
Walking with daemons

Good poem. It was possible to live, well, beyond money.

Word of wisdom for sure. My best days are when I don't spend any money at all.

I think some of the richest people in the world ironically have the least money.

Excellent my friend; I have such an aversion to money and greed; it has become my antithesis in life now; I'm on a crusade and it's all because of the myopic thinking most people are inflicted with. Great poem!

Trying to figure out how I missed this one.

A great poem with great meaning. Greed has always been the reason for wars, whether in the name of religion or whatever. "Gotta have more" is the concept when there is never enough. Wouldn't it be nice to see man care about man at least as much? Loved It!

This is a beautiful poem. When will we be human? Greed is the root cause of all our ills. Wonderful poem. Sharing it.

Awesome poem. Yes, the LOVE of money is the root of all evil, as He tells us in His Word, not having money, but the LOVE of money. If we are blessed to have a lot of money, then God is testing us as to how we use it, i.e., whether we use it or bless others who are in desparate need, etc. There is no problem with having a lot of money, but when we begin to LOVE money we are headed down a path to destruction, as our focus is not on what it should be placed. Voted Up In His Love, Faith Reaper

I thank you all deeply for your compliments. Its a breath of fresh air to realize that others understand that money isn't everything. In a world this materialistic, its wonderful to hear all of you taking value in things other cash and prizes. I for that fact value you all as precious readers and cherish you for your individuality.

So very well put, Sky! Wow, you've said it all in this poem. I so agree; why do we have to get caught up in a web when all we desire is a place to call home?

Thank you all for reading! I'm truly very happy to see that so many of you can embrace and understand where i'm coming from with this piece of poetry. I didn't expect so many to be open minded, it's very refreshing!
