More Than Their Jobs Worth

Updated on March 14, 2016

Learning Disability Awareness

"Why won't they listen to me".
"Why won't they listen to me".

More than their Jobs Worth

Do you have learning disabilities? Do you find it hard to talk to people because you have these disabilities?

Having learning disabilities and are very frustrating when faced with problems over your household bills, the customer care within utility organizations can and do come across bombastic, quarrelsome ignorant to your situation in an uncaring way. A person with dyslexia or other learning disability can usually get very upset, depressed leaving them feeling inadequate of being a human being. The customers care dept within utility organizations the person with learning disabilities feel they have nowhere to turn to get help they need, due to being treated so badly.

Utility suppliers really should change their rules and protocols within their firms so that their customer care dept can address people with learning disabilities in a proper humane manner to help with their wants and needs.

People with this condition are at a disadvantage; please note when someone does tell you they cannot read nor write properly or have another form of learning disability, customer care dept’s should administer caring, understandable attitude to help these disadvantaged people feel at ease when talking about their problems they have within their home about either gas or electric.

Globally people have this condition, not just people living ordinary everyday lives, also Celebrities have learning difficulties. Yet, the rich and famous get noticed, why is care taken when they have a problem; why do utility companies ignore a person who lives an ordinary everyday life and treats them very badly?

I wrote this article out of inspiration because I knew a person had these learning disabilities.

Famous People with Learning Disabilities

More Than Their Jobs Worth Poem

HERE I SIT HEAD IN HANDS.
COLD AND SHIVERING
WATCHING MY PLANTS WITHERING,
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE A HELPING HAND?
THE UTILITY COMPANY, CHIT CHAT
IN EXCHANGE TO SAY THIS AND THAT.

THE UTILITY COMPANY KNOW, I DON’T READ NOR WRITE
THEY SAY I DO THIS, THEY SAY I DO THAT,
SO HOW CAN THINGS BE RIGHT?
BECAUSE THEY KNOW I GOT NO GAS.
MORE THAN THEIR JOB'S WORTH.

THE LADY SAYS, WE CAN’T DO WHAT YOU ASK,
YOU NEED TO SEE WHAT YOUR METER READS.
I SAT THERE NODDING DRINKING TEA FROM MY FLASK,
BUT, DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND I SAID
WITH ALL MY FIGHT,
HOW CAN YOU BE COLD HEARTED AND LIGHT.

IN THE END.
I COUNTED MY BLESSINGS
THAT, I DID NOT GO ROUND THE BEND,
THE UTILITY COMPANY, I GOT NOWHERE.
CAN ANYONE, PLEASE HAVE A MINUTE OR TWO TO SPARE.

I GOT THE HELP TO READ THE GAS METER,
FROM A NICE MAN CALLED PETER.
HE PRODDED AND GAVE A POKE
TO SEE THE DIGITAL NUMBERS LIGHT UP.
OH! PLEASE DON'T LET THIS BE A JOKE.

THE DIGITAL NUMBERS THEY MISLEAD
BECAUSE, THE DIGITAL CARD JUST WON’T FEED,
THE MONEY THAT WILL SINK IN,
THE UTILITY COMPANY SAY’S
THE CARD, IT WILL POP IN.
MORE THAN THEIR JOB'S WORTH

Thank you for comment, I it is a shame that some people are cold hearted. If they were not, then the world would be a far better place to live in.

It's amazing to me how cold people can be, even now, with a greater understanding of just about everything. Thank you for this lovely poem.

Thank you beautiful comment. Just only the other day, I know how people can be very nasty and bombastic towards people with disabilities. As I did experience it myself with my own disabilities. People these days just have the time to care and stop to think.

I know people with dyslexia and know what they have to go through each and every day. It's something they are born with and can not help. We have to be understanding, helpful and caring. You have written a beautiful and perceptive poem. Well done!

Thank you for your comment Vincent. It makes me so mad when I see someone with a disability and in need of help, espcially when it comes down to service providers, or even local authorities, who do not understand their needs or even listen properly. As I have said More than their jobs worth.

There are many people in our world with crippling physical and mental injuries. We can only be patient, loving, caring and helpful. Never judge them for we can be there as quickly.Thank you for sharing your work and reaching out to as many of us as you can.

I thank you for your support and your wonderful email to me, which means quite a lot. Since I joined hubpages, I have met people a few people from the corners of the world, who are genuine people you included on that list. For I have tried to publish my writing elsewhere, with experiences I have seen happen to other people which disgust me on how people treat people. In this world, and I quite understand if you disagree with on this. In my view, The Marjority of people are selfish, greedy, vain and the list goes on; just so they get satisfying results for themselves, it does matter who gets hurt in the process.

Thanks for sharing mrslagibb. That's the beauty of writing , it's healing , it's truth , it shares in ways that others ways have failed , it explains and it clarifies.

Beautiful when you write you truthful thoughts others will understand especially when they are truthful too.

It's usually who feels it knows it until it's shared.

      Give thanks.

This is very touching. We never know how bad it is for a person who has dyxlesia or any other disability. I remember my Mother's words, " You have to walk in their shoes before you can understand or make a judgement " I agree. Thank you for sharing..Well done..
