Mr. Superstar

Updated on March 29, 2015

Hey, you!

I’m right here!

I’m here.

I heard the song

you wrote

as you strummed your

And I know the story

behind it.

You wrote it

after leaving the bar.

You said you were tired

of going home alone and drunk.

My heart got sad.

Do you know what I said?

Did you hear

me say, I could feel

your heartbeat

from afar?

I know who you are.

I grew up watching you.

I grew up with your posters

and tape over my wall.

I let my bedroom become a shrine to you

cause you told me

one day I would make it far.

I did it!

I grew up just to fall in love with you.

I did it!

I grew up just to reach my hand out

from the crying crowd.

These women are ridiculous, screaming.

These women are crazy.

I’m calm, I’m cool.

These imitations don’t faze me.

I know you see

a vision called unique,

in the eyes of I

in the soul of me.

You can feel me.

I’m not like them

cause I’m your number one fan.

I’m the only one.

I’m the girl with the master plan.

I love you no matter where I am.

I own every string on your guitar

and I’ll close out your tab at the bar.

You’re looking for another bleeding heart?

Well Mr. Superstar, here I am.

I’m your only damn fan!

Your name is in lights

over the stage.

My eyes shine 10 times as bright.

Can’t you see love in my face,

Mr. Superstar?

I am super, super bad.

Super, duper young.

Super, super wild.

Super, duper fun.

I’m rocking my head back and forth.

I’ll sing your song til I’ve lost my voice.

I’m the girl you wrote these words for.

You put it on the radio,

knowing I’d hear it

and come to find you.

You said

you just need someone

to be real with.

*guitar solo*

You said it’s hard to find

loyalty in women.

You want a friend,

she has to be

and compassionate.

Those girls scream out

“here I am”, but you’re not

believing it.

Babe, it doesn’t matter

just ignore the chatter.

They see the stage and diamonds

I see loneliness in your spirit, Mr. Superstar.

You yearn for commitment.

I’ve been committed half my life.

At 11, I vowed to be your wife

now I’m 22 on tour following you.

What do you think about that huh? What?

*the drums pick up*

If you can't listen to your heart.

I have no other words for you.

Do you want the hurt to go further, hon?

You’re headed for disaster

if I’m not going home with you, Mr. Superstar.

I’m super, super raw.

I’m super, duper love.

I’m super, super brash.

I am number one.

Thank you Jan, I'm glad you were able to follow that emotional rollercoaster with me! : )

This is an interesting take on obsession. Your style made me feel sorry for her but also fear her. She seems to be right on the line of doing something crazy, but then pulls it back to being a harmless fan in love. Very brilliant of you to illicit all of that out of the reader.

Very different kind of poetry. Loved it! Sometimes it's nice to read something totally unique and you seem to have found your style.

      Well done, really enjoyed.

I had a huge crush on Grace Slick while in college....does that count? At least it gives me some empathy for this poem. Well done!
