Mr Romantic

Updated on September 22, 2012

He wears his clothes with style to look cool

No-one suspects under his fashion garb lies a fool

The kind who loves to pursue new hearts to woo

In search of gullible women who yield and sigh

For reasons of low esteem which they will deny

In my life I’ve never known a vainer guy

Who thinks his clichés walk a mile

With women who lap up his every word

But who later realise he's just a bore

There are rumours that he’s a player and gets around

Tho' women may be kind, their intuition is sound

With a gift of detecting a player miles away

So they can do what they must to keep him at bay

And better still, they’ll pass the word around and say

To all sisters most loyally with voice out loud

That this guy's nothing but a horny hound.

@ Gypsy - Thanks for dropping by again and reading my poem. Much appreciated.

@ Enigmatic Me - glad to make your acquaintance and many thanks for your rave review. I for one am glad that the Mr Romantics in the world are in the minority albeit their very existence is a vexation. Most men I've met are true gentlemen and some have even concluded that in the long run, they stand to gain more from being genuine and sincere than otherwise. Sooner or later, there comes a day when men get tired of playing games when dealing with women and they would like to settle down and have a deep and meaningful and therefore rewarding relationship with one woman for as short or as long a time as it may last. I guess that's called "growing up". So what happens to the Mr Romantics who are left behind? I guess, they keep feeding their love/sex addiction by pursuing one woman after another. It's a big world if you live in a big city or a big cyber community and the opportunities are endless. My advice to women here at Hubs or Facebook is quite simple - be wary of guys who declare their undying exclusive love for you after a few days of becoming friends with you online. :)

2 things. Well done writing satire on the description of these 'boys'... can't really call them men -who should be respectful, accountable and admirable among other things. I do like to see women smart enough to know better.. and obviously those who learn from past experiences fit that as well.

Secondly, the sad commentary on men continues throughout mainstream and hp alike. As a man, I am disappointed that so few have matured to manhood. The images of tomfoolery and general disrespect for the fairer sex (not the insulting 1920's definition of fairer sex- too mild and mannered to speak their mind, and their truth) is insulting to those of us working hard to illustrate we aren't all bad.... to few examples of that these days.

@Amy - Sometimes more is said by saying less and we have both lived long enough to have a good understanding of the dark side of romance. Whilst some may consider the topic covered in my poem as amusing, those of us who have brushed against "horndogs" as our mutual friend Epigramman has so aptly coined - know that being on the receiving end of feigned affection and insincerity is not only futile and souless but outright creepy. Many thanks for dropping by my friend.

@always exploring - looking the other way and steering clear of Mr Romantic (not) is the answer - in fact way, way, away. Thanks for your comment.

Hey, Maria, I didn't know George Carlin said that. He is a man after my own heart! And you, Maria, are one smart cookie.

@ Mhatter99 - Indeed there are true romantics (both men and women) who are sincere and loyal. They are worth their weight in gold and definitely keepers. Thanks for dropping by Mhatter99.

Sounds like a few of my friends (who. for some reason, can't keep a steady date). Even I won't double date with them. But there are true romantics out there.

@ Epigramman - LOL - I'm reminded of a George Carlin skit where he first says: "You wouldn't know it, for some of the things I've said over the years... but I like people, I do, but I like them in short bursts.....once you get around a minute, minute and a half I gotta get the %*%& out of there..... I have a very low tolerance for stupid bullshit."

Well, George (RIP) summed it all up right there.

What inspired me to write this piece was hearing some complaints from various women about their experiences (and mine) with guys who claim to be romantic types. I truly believe, these poor deluded guys are mistaking the word "romantic" for "player".

lake erie time 6:49pm and what good would some of these men be without their little antennas doing all of their thinking ....

Oh the shame of it all - they are no 'brothers' of mine - no wonder women are pissed off these days .....
