My Country, My Delta
Oil rich, a place coveted,
Balanced, delicately blanketed.
Seas, Oceans, rivers and creeks
not a few, just not the "styx"
Enveloped with greenery
Lush with thriving shrubbery
The Mangrove - a Local's delight
The Seafood - a test of his fishing might!
A place of serenely riotous weather:
HMM! My Niger Delta!!
Oil spills - a land polluted;
Foreign feet, its beauty, desecrated.
The black Gold - luxuriant, a-plenty!
The "rapists" - much more than "thirty"
A land despoiled by installments
Sold to assuage our greedy intents.
Blood spilled in defence of Mother Nature
Turned our land into a militant enclosure
Sure enough - there's the abuse of power
AH! My Niger Delta!!
Oil-sapped - that is a future envisaged
If this land continues to be pillaged
Education - a luxury one too many
Clean water - not a drop to help the thirsty
Within is the sound of lethal gunfire
Without, the government's promises on a funeral pyre
Gone is the light of hope in a child's eyes
Rampant, the growth of our Leaders' lies
False promises spew daily from those who would be in power
OH! My Niger Delta!!
