Funny Poetry About an Author and her Husband

Updated on September 17, 2015

My Husband Lets Me Write

Source

My husband lets me write,
He's generous with my time,
He's supportive of my dream,
Although he knows not how to rhyme.

My partner lets me scribble,
He says it is all right
He doesn't whine a bit,
Even when I type all night.

I want to make him proud
And show him my big cheques
I work hard each and every day,
To perfect my online texts.

My husband lets me write,
At least he did until today.
This morning I found a note,
It said he's going his own way.

My husband said he's tired,
Of rice and beans all week,
He's found another girl,
She feeds him like a Greek.

She doesn't write a thing,
In fact she's just learned how to spell
Her grammar is atrocious
And her syntax's gone to h***.

But she knows just how to iron
And she's never missed a meal
Her dusting is amazing
And her meatloaf is unreal.

My husband lets me write
He never bothers me,
In fact, he's even left me
So I can write in peace.

So pursue that dream of yours
It's important to your heart
Just don't be too shocked
If you end up alone and smart!

A Quick Note

I just want to add a quick note that my husband does let me write and he's supporting this writing dream of mine. I started to write a little tribute to him but then I decided to make it a fun poem. This one is for my husband and for my Grandpa, who also writes poems, many of them very funny and always with a bit of a twist!

Alone and smart--I had to chuckle! I love this poem! The rhyme and rhythm and wonderful sentiment. I also like the tribute to your hubby and his support..and to your grandpa. I love twists in poetry! Great job. Every vote here and sharing!

Victoria, wow, you are quick! Thank you so much -- it was a lot of fun to write. My Grandpa is such a great poet and I wanted to try to copy his style, kind of a cowboy poetry style. I'm doing the 30/30 challenge and it is definitely challenging. Thanks again!

Hi prairieprincess... loved the way you have written this as I was reading I said "OH NO" and thankfully you added at the end of the support you have to write. Awesome and give that man a special hug from us all and keep the writing coming.

      Hugs from Alberta

I was reading the first part of this poem to my hubby because it explained exactly how appreciative I am for his support. Then came the twist and my hubby was staring at me like WTH? Then I read the note at the bottom and had to chuckle. Did not see that one coming! lol Voted up!

@Rolly, thank you! I told my husband what you said and he said "thank you so much!" I will definitely give him a hug from you. And I want to get over and comment soon; I've just been so harried getting this 30/30 challenge done. Thanks again!

@Daughter, that's hilarious! I am glad I put the disclaimer at the bottom, then. That's wonderful that your husband supports you, too. That is truly a gift, isn't it? Thanks for stopping by. Tell your husband I'm sorry for scaring him, ha ha!

my princess of poetry, this is my style of poetry,

a killer rhyme like no other.

      would like to show it

      to my mother

      she would just think

      that it'a so fine

      make me repeat it

      all the time.

      great poem. very nice

      and fun with a twist

      at the end

      Her husband lets her write

      thats all fine and good

      But what if he Didn't......

      I think she still would

At first I thought "why does she

even need his permission", what the heck?

But now I realize ....Maybe she

      needs him for 'spellcheck'

      Ha ha !

Just like a real good movie!

@Millionaire Tips, I try not to write all the time but during this 30/30 challenge, it's been taking a lot more time and I am grateful for his patience. Thanks for your comment!

      @Ahorseback,

      a brilliant response,

      Rhyming hard to resist

      You asked a good question

      One that can't be missed!

Thank you! And I "let" my husband do stuff, too. It's very mutual. Have a great day!

@Lizam, ha ha! Yes, the poor man! I say the same thing sometimes. I do cook him good dinners, though, so that part's not true but it really is a balancing act to keep it all going. Thanks for the funny comment. Take care!

What a great and fun rhyme! Writing has been the mistress (what is the male equivalent of a mistress called anyway, a mastress?) of many a writer. Glad to hear this case was just in fun. Thanks for the entertaining read that brought a smile to my face!

You had me scared there at the end. My husband puts up with my writing, but wishes I didn't spend so much time up here when he's home. I have to try to keep a balance so he doesn't get too unhappy. I'm glad you didn't push your husband too far and that he doesn't mind your writing.

@Poetic Fool, I am so glad you liked it! Your poetry amazes me, so I feel honoured. Yes, you make a good point. It has been the "mistress" of many a man but in this case, I just thought it was a funny thought. Take care!

@WannaB, it really is about finding that good balance, isn't it? I don't feel like I've quite gotten there yet. I often feel guilty about spending too much time writing and it is a constant pull. Thanks for commenting. So nice to see you!

That was good and I enjoyed what you did. People often get too stiff. It is fun to see people okay with themselves.

I enjoyed your work and I showed it to my wife.

@MM, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was going to put that in but then I thought I better, just in case someone thought my husband was leaving me! Have a wonderful evening.

Ha ha - I absolutley loved this one... I was drawn in by the title because I was thinking boy you are lucky. My husband supports my dream... and I guess he lets me write... when he isn't around! But this was genius and super cute! Love it!

Barbie, that's funny: when he's not home! My husband works shift work so I can take advantage of some of those weird hours. And he wasn't always as supportive as he is now, ha ha! Take care and thank you for supportive comment.

I love how you describe your grandfather's style "Cowboy Poetry." I like that description, it fits. Enjoyed your clever poem, although I really appreciate your disclaimer note at the end. I was getting tense and a little worried toward the end there. :)

Phdast, thank you so much! Yes, my Grandpa never called it that, but then he was invited to a whole Cowboy Poetry conference, and it looked like he had developed his style!
