My Kid Sister
My Kid Sister
Ode to Sabrina
by Laura Summerville Reed
Don’t touch my stuff
Go away and play
Over there with that stuff
That used to be my stuff
Or someone else’s stuff
I don’t know
We’re not alike, anyway
I tolerated you tagging along
Every once in awhile
And out of the deal you got two scars
I got to discover just how alike we really are
I watched you shine
And grow
And nurture
And let go
Now full circle
Your beautiful babies have babies.
And I claim among my most treasured possessions
A few things that used to be
My kid sister’s stuff
