My Name is...

Updated on January 5, 2012

Irell, a name given to me by my parents

Named after my father, he’s not much of a Dad.

So that makes me the second, a junior.

I don’t like sharing a name with him,

It is what it is, but I’ll make it better.

Derived from Uriel or Auriel or Oriel

An archangel, of poetry and salvation

Perhaps that spirit is my muse.

Vincent comes next in the order,

A French word, familiar to me.

The ancient Greeks would call me The Conqueror,

The Romans and Spaniards are reminded of the patron saint

Vincent, of winegrowers, Oh! The sweet and tangy taste.

A name also given to a one Van Gogh

A painter of sorts who severed his own ear.

Coming at the end is the name of Lee.

My ancestors might have been sailors

Or pirates, maybe even explorers.

A nautical term that I’ve never used

A protective shelter, warm and cozy.

Someone living near a meadow

That’s what the Anglo-Saxons said.

Possibly Asian origins but I doubt that.

Because when you put them all together

There’s an archangel, that conquers,

Is a sailor, who lives in a meadow,

Most likely in a protective shelter.
