My Vacation: A poem/story

Updated on September 6, 2014

My Vacation

My vacation started in an odd way,

I didn't go to the beach

till Friday.

I started my vacation on Labor Day,

the Saturday before,

I felt sick.

On the Couch I lay

Monday was the same,

as my body would not move.

Soon, Tuesday came.

Tuesday to the dentist is where I had to go.

Two rotten teeth that I scheduled to be pulled.

Upset and feeling ill,

once home I went to bed.

Wednesday was a busy day,

A mammogram and Doctors appointment.

So what did the Doctor say?

An ear and throat infection,

prescribed me medicine.

As I left I thought,

what a crazy vacation.

Thursday was better to me.

Off to see my 5 year old

grand daughter to school

for the first time.

After she was on the bus,

the family went out to dine.

So back to Friday at the beach,

spent time with my 2 year old

grand daughter,

she buried me in the sand,

from torso to feet.

Later my husband and I,

treated our son and his family

to a Chinese Buffet.

Then we said Goodbye

and went our own way.

So now it is Saturday,

as I sit and type away.

I write my poems and stories

on hubpage site.

Later we babysit

our grandchildren tonight.

Sure it may not seem like a fun week,

but I avoided the work routine.

I did what had to and wanted to be done.

All in all, this not so typical vacation

turned out to be relaxing and also fun.

Thank you Eric, Flourish and DDE for reading my vacation hub. All in all it was good. Now back to the work routine tomorrow. Throat still hurts but on medicine, so hopefully back to health in a few days.

Sometimes the body just surprises you with something new. Hope you still enjoy your vacation.

Perhaps not the way you wanted to spend your time off but I hope you were able to relax while you had a break from the routine.

Staycations are the best, sounds like you got your rest.

Thank you Jodah and always for reading. Tonight I watch my two and five year old grand daughters. Family is so important to me. I have a day and a half left before Monday is here and back to work I go. However, I like my job and don't dread going back. My throat and ears still hurt, but been on my medicine, so hopefully I will be 100% by the time Monday comes around. Not all vacations need to be so grand, sometimes just spending time with my husband and our family is all I need.

Somehow I could relate to your hectic vacation week. Sometimes our best laid out plans can turn upside down, but we can still enjoy our family. Thank's for sharing...

We'll Lisa, your vacation didn't start off the best with the dentist and doctor's visits be it sounds like it ended enjoyably enough. Quite a nice Poe. Thank you. Keep writing.
