My dear Land lady
She was my dear Land lady,
Always smile on her face.
She was very kind and loving ,
Had all the charm and grace.
She spoke so sweetly and softly,
Every word she said was clear,
Sometimes I had to speak aloud
when she had difficulty to hear.
Wheever I spoke she was quiet,
Often closed her eyes.
Concentrated on what I said,
When needed , gave advice.
Sometimes she told me off
If I did something wrong ,
But her anger, all the time,
did not last for long.
Oh how nicely she cooked,
So delicious to taste !
She knew the kind of food
that I liked best .
Sometimes she would ask me
to sit down by her side,
As I did she would smile,
And then she would confide.
About the incidents of her life
and all the dear friends she had,
Her childhood , school days,
Her dear mum and dad.
After her parents death,
How she struggled all the way,
How she brought up her only brother
working hard all day.
The year she got married
to the person she loved so,
Who passed away quickly
That gave her heart a blow !
As she told me about her past
showing the photos she had,
I saw tears in her eyes
which made me feel so sad.
Putting back her album,
She would crack jokes and laugh,
I knew those were her ways
to make her mind tough.
One night she was so jolly,
Jollier than ever before,
Suddenly she was all quiet,
Wouldn’t talk to me any more.
I asked her if she was alright,
She smiled , said Good night.
Asked me not to worry,
to go to bed and sleep tight .
That was the last time she spoke,
Last time smiled at me,
She passed away later that night,
Or in the early morning it could be.
She looked as if she was sleeping,
in total happiness and peace,
With my eyes, filled in tears ,
I gave my mother a kiss.
Yes, she was a good mother to me
So kind, loving was she !
Even after all these years
She is always with me.
