Cul-de-Sac | Source

My love is in knowing...

I can read those thoughts

That cruise through your mind

I can see the hurt

That I have left behind

I know the way your eyes

Fill up when I am mean

You always hurt in silence

You never make a scene

I can sense your heart

And its dreams and pride

I knew who you are

As I came along for the ride

I'm not always perfect

I end up hurting you

I sometimes leave your pride

Bruised black and blue

But remember my love

Even when you dont show

I'll heal all those wounds

For I'll always know

My love is caring, sharing

My love is being, showing

But most of all my darling

My love is in knowing.

Annie, thank you for your comments. Yes it is pink bouganvilla I was walking past this cul-de-sac in Greece and loved the way the whole scene looked. Thankfully I had my camera with me!

Dana, Iam glad this captured the difficulties of relationships. Even 'non' dumb partners can hurt each other. I think having the emotional intelligence to appreciate this and attempting to remedy this is the key. Thanks for reading!

Daisy- you are right, we can hurt the ones closest to us unwittingly and it scars much deeper. thanks for reading.

It is said we hurt the ones we love the most! I don't know why this is but your poem acknowledges the hurt and makes amends. Lovely words, Docmo, my votes to you. I love your image also, is that a pink bouganvillia?

Wow. beautiful. this really hit home. i have been that girl. blindsided when a dumb guy has said something cruel and i keep it inside so i dont look like a baby, or just to be childish. and then the light goes off in his thick head and he comes back and apologizes. those are the feelings your words brought up. bittersweet.

you never cease to amaze me with your insight and the beauty of your words.

      Mohan (Docmo),

I enjoyed reading this beautifully expressive poem. Someimes we do something without realizing at the time what the initial consequences will be. In the end, though, love heals.

Wise words, sonia05.. love hurts, heals and blossoms. Is that why the Rose is always born with a thorn? Thanks for dropping by.

wow...simply lovely. Life is so very complicated. We love someone dearly and at the same time end up hurting the same person badly but heals and thus it blossoms!

Thank you for your comments. I agree with the fact that we may hurt people unthinkingly but more importantly sometimes unknowingly as one may not always know what words, actions and sentiments hurt others until you are well into a relationship. I wrote this some years ago, when I realised it is not always possible to navigate the paths of a loving relationship without unwittingly treading on a sensitive spot- the key is in reflection, retraction, empathy and 'knowing', understanding and constant communication and as you say not taking the forgiveness for granted. A strong relationship is based on these foundations and not assumptions and an instant expectation of forgiveness, I am sure you will agree. Really appreciate your visit and taking the time to read my work!

Beautiful sentiments expressed so well. Simple and effective use of language. I just wonder how we hurt those whom we love the most, unthinkingly and we seem to take their forgiveness for granted .. please do not take it as a judgement of your attitude but more as a general outlook on life. I really loved this poem.
