Nougat: A Poem

Updated on July 12, 2016

A type of candy

Made of sugar, roasted nuts

And whipped fresh egg white.

About this Poem

This poem is a haiku that explains what nougat is. That's a very important thing for writers to know because nougat can easily be confused with nugget, which is a word that always makes me giggle. Nougat is a kind of candy for old ladies or something, I don't know. Nuggets are made of chicken and are for cool people who like to skateboard all the way to McDonald's for chicken nuggets because it's a really rad thing to do.

I will dare to out myself as an old lady and admit that I really like nougat. I have since I was a kid. There is a particular candy bar from my childhood called "Big Hunk;" I just love them but it seems no one else in the world has ever heard of them. In the 70s I would ride my bike up to Stop N Go and get one with a dime (plus a penny for tax). Now Big Hunks are hard to find, which is actually for the best, as I am a candy freak and will eat as many Big Hunks as I can get my hands on. Santa usually brings me a few at Christmas. Thanks for indulging me in my trip down memory lane.

As an end note, I have never had "artisanal" nougat but I seriously doubt it is as good as the over-sweetened, over-processed, chemically-preserved perfection that is a Big Hunk.

      Nice pome BTW.
