ONCE UPON A HILL

Updated on March 25, 2013

LIII.

     Upon a hill

I climbed one day

By accident,

I found my soul

And recognized it

     Instantly.

I could have

Just as easily

     Missed it

And gone another way.

_____© Nellieanna H. Hay

To love again

And know the joy

Of giving

All my heart

And soul

Again to living,

A dream so sweet

It could not be

Muffled by reality.

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

Signs and symbols

Airborne,

Out from under liturgies

Too long held

Against the wind.

Be reborn

Better

Than before.

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

Transport me,

Cell by cell

To where you are.

There must be

Spaces in between

Your cells

For me ~.

Where mine

Belong.

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

Summer morning

Subtly presents itself

As a fresh cool kiss

- Until it starts to blister.

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

Tides of golden clouds may fret,

Wash across a spotless sky of blue,

Churning up whipped froth in kindly threat

Or gently rain and then move on ~

                           Adieu.

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

Time and speed -

New dimensions

For one who knew

But quiet space.

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

                          There is

                     Nothing more

                   And nothing less

                         Than this -

                    A total moment

                        Fully lived.

                                   ______© Nellieanna H. Hay

Ken - I'm so pleased that you've come by. I've missed seeing your comments, but I realize your life has taken some new paths. Glad they're not all away from us here!

Yes, I truly think that the most important connection between people is that one which is free of confinements, the one "in space", as you say. And yes, it has the advantage of never drying up, too. It's an infinite kind of connection, really.

What a nice thought! It would have been eons, all right, though and even then I'd have had to be a cougar. hehe. (I'm past cougar age now. I guess I've graduated to tiger maybe.) ;-> Well, anyway, it is very pleasant to share a wavelength at times!

Thank you for a lovely comment to cheer my day. I've been trying to get a new hub done after my hiatus for a week with company, but there are just so many things going on! And I can't play too much. I have to get taxes ready for the 15th. groan. But I hope to get a new one up before I immerse in all that black and white and red. LOL. Hugs.

      These verses simply divine.

      "Transport me,

      Cell by cell

      There must be

      Spaces in between

      Your cells

      For me ~.

      Where mine

      Belong."

What a brilliant feeling to be so connected in space, when hearts touch and beat at the same rhythm. The cells are entwined as one and flow together in unison without ever drying up.

Oh Nellieanna you make me sit back and take in all your words, I simply am your puppy dog lapping at your heels waiting to be fed again with your verse. If we had met ions ago, I wonder what space we would be in today. Hugs my sweet lady. You truly bring joy to my world.

Gerry - ah - yes, I guess my soul is right out there! Thank you for noticing so magnanimously.

Well, you know how often I choose the hyphen or dash for my punctuation! So I would not have noticed your comma missing necessarily! :-)

I think you are so right about Ben's real identity. hehe He sort of claimed me as the grandmother he never knew, so I was pleased to adopt him. But if he's really so old, I may have to take the matter before a judge! tee hee. I love that you visited! Hugs.

But you already know that and that my comma is still broken; ergo - hyphens. I am delighted that you have adopted young BenWritings who is really as old as Yoda and using the stolen avatar of his own grandson. LOL. Love your art and your heart. Hugs.

Some of these should be among famous quotes "Love brings us to our knees that we might truly stand" Wow!...Life wins for life is no opponent unto life"... All and all I came away from these simple poems hugely inspired and the message to live the moment came through between the ripples of golden clouds washing across the spotless sky of blue! Exquisite!!!

Each poem you write has a beauty to its own

You are a poet who should be very well known

Words of wisdom, profound and deep

a hub to be bookmarked, just to keep

From finding your soul, to this moment in time

You have written many an inspiring rhyme

Oh, Alan, I'm just overcome with such an accolade as you've given. Thanks just are insufficient, but thank you anyway. What a great honor to be even mentioned in the same sentence as Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

How can I describe you Nellieanna! Let me try. The moments are in search of you, that they may come to rest in the only place, which will describe them adequately. "There must be spaces inbetween your cells for me, where I belong." Elizabeth Barrett Browning alive in Nelieanna.

These are TRULY amazing. The shortness and power of each one BLOWS my mind. I sat there, reading each one twice, pondering it for a moment, and realizing how profound you are.

I can't pick my favorite on this one, like I usually can.

Ian, dear friend. You, a clumsy anything??? Nevah! You, with your command of language and imagery is more like I'm a little butterfly flittering around while you're composing epic stories in poetry!

I'm quite fond of the one you quoted, too. I wrote it when contemplating giving up a futile vigil and deciding to address life again. Music then was a very big part of my otherwise humdrum existence, so this theme was a look at the "first day of the rest of my life" - and it was much less bleak looking in those terms. :-) Now that I think about it, most of the poems on this hub are about just that!

Rod McKuen's "The Earth", which he wrote with Anita Kerr, is something which means a lot to me. First of all, I love his poetry. And he actually proved that "the public" can handle poetry, which he wrote quite successfully. The first of my acquaintance with "The Earth" was some 40 or so years ago on a 33-1/3 RPM vinyl record. Now it is so much lovelier with the wonderful illustrations on the video. Thank you for hearing it and for your valuable feedback about it!

Hugs and a most heartfelt thank you!

What a beautiful hub, my lovely person. I have wallowed in it, like a great clumsy buffalo. These thoughts and windows to your soul are so delightful, so ethereal that I want to rush through to love and to enjoy... But when I've read, and read again, I find it so difficult to decide which is the one that pleases me most.

      Perhaps:

      "To prolong

      The song

      Is not to make music,

      One tune

      Must end

      For another

      To begin"

      For this is exquisite.

Your choice of the video is superb. those noble animals, and almost every one of them looking pensive, or sad.

Thank you, you bright and gleaming soul.

      Thank you.

That is one of the nicest and most gratifying comment anyone has ever given my hubs, Chrisopher, - and timely, too. There are times when I think "what am I doing writing poetry, anyway?" They're just jottings down of some thought or feeling, with only my own inner sense of form - wanting them to have some music and balance, even though I know a little bit about classic form. I wasn't intending to be "A Poet" - just to capture those moments with clarity for my own reminders.

To be likened in any measure to a "Mozart" of it bowls me over, especially coming from someone with your excellent taste and knowledge. I truly appreciate it. Hugs and many thanks.

Most of my comments on people's efforts are of a very routine nature, like "excellent hub" or "thanks for sharing. There is only one person here who always inspires my grudging hands to type more thought out compliments.

      That person is you Nellieanna.

The volume of your work, and the invariably exquisite beauty of your poems, make you truly the "Mozart" of HubPages.

Your pictures are pretty darn nice as well.

      Thank you.
