Ode to a Lady

The opera is not ending because you are singing.

I have seen the fat lady in the opera and believe me when I say you can't hold a candle to her, or a sandwich for that matter.

You are a woman of great dignity, grace, and intellect.

Men worship you and women wish they were you.

You are the envy of all whom you encounter.

The earth smiles because you walk upon it,

You ask for nothing and yet you are wealthy of spirit and mind.

The admiration and accolades you inspire would be difficult for another to bear, but not you.

For you are strong and fit, of great beauty and style.

There will never be another like you for you truly are unique and wondrous.

I am better just for having known you.

And you are simply beautiful to me!

Thank you VC for understanding my desire to not fear what you can't understand. "To know me is to know nothing" might be an alternate title to this ode. One must accept who we are, with all our enigmatic quirks, in order to achieve a lasting relationship. Ahhh, one of nature's curious yet beautiful mysteries... women.

I love this tribute to women - so much truth here. It takes a real man to appreciate women as we have out moments and when we do, we can't figure us out. Thank you for thinking of us.

Larry, I couldn't ask for a nicer comment. You are so very right about whats important with respect to a relationship with another human being of whatever sex.. the importance of intelligence, communication, joie de vivre, body type not so much. We really do get wiser as we age. Thank you.

I have met Marilyn Horne and a more gracious, talented, and intelligent person you couldn't find...her girth didn't define her, her joie de vivre did...Thank you for this ringing tribute to the wonderful ladies of opera, and to women in general...Larry

You're right, b.b. It's only the spiral-gold hubcaps that make her appear fat.
