On Watching the Sun Rise Over the Ocean

Updated on April 24, 2013

Sherri runs an online craft store and enjoys gardening and listening to classic rock. One day she hopes to be a writer.

Seeking stillness in the morning, I rise before dawn

The world is still made of shadows

Waking images shaking off the shroud of the night

I take my place among them and wait for the magic of dawn

That place in time when light emerges

Early rays of light touch sleeping sand

A glorious orb rises in the distance

And all of nature sings the song of morning

The ocean and waterfowl sing a duet

In praise of the glowing jewel that will soon touch the earth with warmth

In the distance dolphins leap in to the air as if to say "Welcome morning!"

Like a connoisseur drinking a rare, fine wine

I drink in the images and they are revealed

And give praise for the precious gift of time.

The peace and beauty of a special sunrise stays in the heart long after the colours have faded. Lovely poem.

Thank you all. With summer around the corner, I hope to visit the ocean very soon. I hope to bring even more inspiration back home when I return.

Your poem does what a painter does with a brush. Beautifully painted.

      Voted up and beautiful.

Thank you so much. Each new morning is a miracle and using words to capture the miracle was difficult. I am glad that you enjoyed the poem.

A truly beautiful and somewhat inspiring poem. Thank you very much for sharing with the world. Watching the sunrise is an experience we both share, but you have expressed the wonder of it much more elliquantly than I ever could.

      Beautiful, thanks you.
