On Watching the Sun Rise Over the Ocean
Seeking stillness in the morning, I rise before dawn
The world is still made of shadows
Waking images shaking off the shroud of the night
I take my place among them and wait for the magic of dawn
That place in time when light emerges
Early rays of light touch sleeping sand
A glorious orb rises in the distance
And all of nature sings the song of morning
The ocean and waterfowl sing a duet
In praise of the glowing jewel that will soon touch the earth with warmth
In the distance dolphins leap in to the air as if to say "Welcome morning!"
Like a connoisseur drinking a rare, fine wine
I drink in the images and they are revealed
And give praise for the precious gift of time.
