One Step

Updated on December 8, 2011

One Step

As I sit up late at night once again

I contemplate ideas to express amongst women and men

should they be spiritual, religious, or maybe romantic

so few ideas, so many subjects to take my pick

yet being indecisive just makes me sick

so I choose all the subjects, just write what I feel

I create and invent ideas like the wheel

all sorts of thoughts flood into my head

I’m lucky to be alive and not dead

these thoughts are all kinds of emotions

wildly swelling like the waves in the oceans

happiness, sadness, anger and love

they are too hot to handle so grab a glove

to control the passion I install in each verse

you might end up dead so bring along a hearse

don’t underestimate the power of a poem

I hope to have one someday written in stone

then I’d be like E.T. and just phone home

take my soul away and I’m left alone

for now I’ll stay on Earth where my skills are shown

once I start writing poetry my surroundings turn gray

it was around midnight when I started writing away

now it’s 6 am and the suns rising to begin the day

so I let my brain settle as I see the first ray…….

But as hard as I try I don’t think I can stop

my mind won’t let me until I get to the top

like I’m playing poker and I’m waiting for the flop

I stay cool and play it safe like a cop

take it one step at a time, that’s what life’s all about

but for now I’ll sleep cuz my laptop’s battery has run out……
