When I woke up this morning

it was drizzling--

the first drizzle in months.

I got out of bed

and put on a sweater

for the first time in months

and took the dog for a walk.

It started to pour

And my teeth chattered.

The dog was soaked and the sweater,

drenched,

now clung to my body

as if trying to warm itself

against my cold

wet skin.

I walked upstairs

To our apartment,

my hair plastered to my scalp.

The dog shook and I could hear her tags

rubbing against each other.

I’m going to sit on the couch all day

and watch football

and eat popcorn

and drink cocoa

and later maybe

we’ll watch a movie.

I brewed some coffee and soon

our little apartment--

our first apartment—

smelled

of wet dog and coffee.

I woke up before you did for a change

so I thought I’d write you a note

and say that

it’s going to be that kind of day.

My favorite kind of day.

Sounds like my kind of day sometimes. Lazy hazy days, no decisions to make and the ones I make will be of my choice. I use to love staying in my PJ's while I sat at my desk and worked, but now I have to punch a clock on a part-time basis and sneak a day or two off to enjoy these things you talk of. I love relaxation and yours sounds just fine to me.

These are the best days, theres no guilt over feeling you should be doing something productive and what pleasures, walk in the rain, coffee, doggy smell, movie and chocolate, oops, cocoa - it would be chocolate for me, but other than that - well what more could you wish for.

Love your simplicity and your appreciation of life itself. Your style is very refreshing PDX, my votes to you.

      Hi Justin

I have read several of your great poems over the last few days and read your hub in which you explained how you would be seeking to make a full time income from your writing.

Whilst I've not got the same ambitions to be a writer as you, your decision made me look to push myself into an area of writing that I am not comfortable with at all and I've now published my first poem on Hubpages!

      Amber:)

qlcoach, I'm glad you can relate and i'm glad you commented. Cave Junction is beautiful!

Lucky cats, what a kind thing to say. You made my day! Thanks so much for the read and the kind words!

for the record, I'm not a morning person and I tend to wake up a little grouchy... but I love the rain

Oh...PDXKarokeGuy..you're the kind of man any woman would want to wake up with...you exude a pure joy for life and all the little nuances which make up the day and one's experiences; however minute...that color our lives. I LOVE this day you've described...and warming up after a brisk, cold and clingy clothes am walk to warm coffee and other delights...and then a cozy settling on the couch to watch favorites is absolutely endearing and alluring! WOW...a man who relaxes such as this is a very cool person. All ups..even funny 'cuz I can hear those tags tinkling and clinking, too. You described it that well.

When it's cold and dreary, I like to sit by the fireplace with my wife, the dogs, music, and a good book to read. I can relate to your poem as I live in Oregon too---Cave Junction. Nice job. Peace and Light...Gary.
