One of Those Days
When I woke up this morning
it was drizzling--
the first drizzle in months.
I got out of bed
and put on a sweater
for the first time in months
and took the dog for a walk.
It started to pour
And my teeth chattered.
The dog was soaked and the sweater,
drenched,
now clung to my body
as if trying to warm itself
against my cold
wet skin.
I walked upstairs
To our apartment,
my hair plastered to my scalp.
The dog shook and I could hear her tags
rubbing against each other.
I’m going to sit on the couch all day
and watch football
and eat popcorn
and drink cocoa
and later maybe
we’ll watch a movie.
I brewed some coffee and soon
our little apartment--
our first apartment—
smelled
of wet dog and coffee.
I woke up before you did for a change
so I thought I’d write you a note
and say that
it’s going to be that kind of day.
My favorite kind of day.
