POETRY: I'VE WALKED YOUR SHOES

Updated on September 2, 2012

It is funny when I think back

Of all the choices that I made

As I put them all together

To find myself here today

What a journey it has been

Still far from the end

I made my own family

Made a few real good friends

I met a loving partner

Who became my best friend

Two loving little angels

I'll fight for til the end

I've made some bad choices

That I am not proud of

Lost a lot of values

Hurt the ones that I love

I've cheated, stole, and lied

Been happy, mad, sad and cried

I've went running home to mom

Because in her I can confine

I have stood on mountains high

Slipped and fell into darkness below

I love my peanut butter fudge

I have problems letting go

I changed my life around

When the walls came caving down

It really is a miracle

I'm not six feet under ground

I always run to God

When I have no where to turn

I can't never trace my tracks

For all the bridges I have burned

I did my best to show everyone

I have changed my past ways

But still they always judge me

All I can do for them is pray

The dark clouds have moved on

Just look at this beautiful day

Why can't we learn to love

How can someone live for hate

I've walked your shoes my friend

Look up, I offer a hand to lend

I feel your pain and sorrow

I have, time and time again

So come stand here beside me

And let go off all this hate

The world may turn their back on you

Look up, we stand face to face

I don't care where you came from

I don't care about your past

If your weak, lean on my shoulder

Your no longer alone, I have your back

Peggy, thanks for taking the time to read this poem. So sorry about the passing of your mother. You are so right, mom has always been a great mother and she has always had my back. For that, I have been blessed.

You have covered a lot of territory and learning about life in this poem. So much has already been said in the comments. The one thing I particularly noticed was the fact of being able to go home and talk to your mother. Mine is now in heaven. No one can take the place of a good mother! Your children now have the wisdom and love that you can pass along to them. Voted this hub up and beautiful.

Hyphenbird, thanks for the comment and for coming by to read. Honestly, when I write, I just write. The only reason I added that is because I wanted to personalize it per say.

This is a good poem. It is inspiring without becoming syrupy as some poetry does. The only line that seemed out of place was "I love my peanut butter fudge". Am I missing the connotations? It just doesn't fit in to me. Otherwise I find this a lovely read and am glad I came by. Thanks and regards, Hyphen.

Hey there Homesteadbound. Thanks for coming by. You picked up on the catch Homesteadbound. I didn't realize it when I wrote it, but many of us can relate to this. We are all far from perfect, but mistakes made me stronger, wiser, and prepared me for the future. It is all about learning. My two angels are my babies. I have been blessed with a girl and a boy. Everything I prayed for from my heart has come true. I have been truly blessed. Once again, congrats on the 100 and I am not talking about her age. Homesteadbound is a busy lady and a great writer. 100 quality hubs within 2 months, amazing stats. You can read her work here http://hubpages.com/@homesteadbound

Take care dear friend and thanks:)

This was a great poem and so many people can relate in so many ways, and so many people are guilty in so many ways. All of us can relate to making mistakes (if we are honest), and so many of us can relate to unforgiveness, of others and ourselves. I think you touch on it, but hate and unforgiveness can and will destroy people's lives.

I liked the mention you make of what I assume to be your children.

It really was an awesome poem.

Hey again Gypsy. Ohh, I love that song. It is jus one of those poems that we can all relate to. We all have had our good and our bad. Learning from the past prepares us for the future and so does making mistakes.

"I have changed my past ways

But still they always judge me

All I can do for them is pray"

These people who are so quick to judge and slow to forgive, forget that they are human and that they are not perfect.

A beautiful poem that comes from the heart.

      Voted up, up and away!

Such an honest and emotional poem cannot have been easy to write, I see a few tear drop stains on this page.

I can relate to this in some ways, we all make mistakes which we regret

It takes great courage to admit our mistakes and turn our life around. Everyone deserves forgiveness and I believe sometimes others are more willing to forgive us easier than we do to forgive ourselves. But the past is the past and that is where it belongs, live for today and hold your head high

I love the reference to your 2 little angels.

A beautiful heartfelt poem and voted up across the board. You even get a ‘funny’ for peanut butter fudge that seemed to pop up out of nowhere.

      Bless you my friend

I love how you took us full circle with this beautiful, so true to life yet very lyrical poem. It's filled with wisdom that we would all do well to remember. We learn from our mistakes, ask for forgiveness and the opportunity to prove we've changed our ways, love and be loved and extend our hands to others without judgement.

You've said it all within a single poem and I agree with Eiddwen- the result is amazing and brilliant!

What a beautiful expression of encouragement to stand strong 'cause we and He have you covered. :)

I loved your reference to your little ones, and I also loved that you've pointed out that people DO change. Not all, and for those that do, not always in good ways. But, when positive things begin to grow in someone, if get judgemental and pass it over ... we're the ones who miss something very special.
