Peace of Mind--A Senryu

Updated on February 11, 2012

I am short of peace,

So precious and endearing.

Stillness, where are you?

-----------------------------------------

My Mind runs to Flint,

While body is in Long Beach.

Concern building up.

--------------------------------------------

Blood pressure mounting,

Fingers sweating and Feet tapping,

Waiting for news of being.

------------------------------------------------

Life devoid of you,

Will be empty and barren.

How will I exist?

--------------------------------------------------

Battling a conflict,

In my mind of pros and cons.

Have to combat it.

----------------------------------------------------

Peace is sought after,

But, Peace has gone everyplace,

Except in my mind.

-----------------------------------------------------

Ruchira wonderful Senryus. These thoughts are universal I presume but expressed so beautifully by you.

Glad to know the difference between a haiku and senryu.

      Voted up, awesome and beautiful.

Wonderful form for poetry. Reminds me of my own thoughts when I have a hundred things to do in a day and I don't know where to start. Excellent!

Thank you alocsin. Senryu n haiku have the same style but senryu is to do with The subject of human nature. Thus, the above!

Voting this Up and Beautiful. So is a senryu a different type of haiku or different style of poetry altogether?

yeah, i agree with you always exploring...whether haiku or senryu if the goal is to touch the human soul...it doesn't matter for me...God doesn't see our foibles but as children of God...

      Hello Manoj,

Yes, I agree our sentiments are a part of nature but, I am going by the book of rules, my friend. You have defined the above clearly.

Thank you once again for your priceless comments...motivates a writer :)

      Hi Shimmering Dawn,

Sure, it does not matter but I wanted to play by the rules of the book of literature & thanks to Audrey, I could correct it.

I am glad that you felt the feeling of extreme want of tranquility in this poem.

thanks for stopping by and good to see you! I will be checking out your hubs, shortly.

Ruchira first haiku, now senryu. You seem to be specializing on things Japanese. Short was never so perfect until Ruchira touched it. I think senryu is a haiku based on human nature or things comical or satirical unlike haiku which is syllable perfect and deals with nature. But tell me Ruchira is man not part of nature. If we tell things of humans are we not dealing with nature.

Always in awe of your talent and endearing presence.

      ...Manoj

Audrey is right about haiku and senryu. But, who cares, a small technicality, but your poem expresses the feeling rather starkly. Well written! Wish you much peace.Shalom!

Nice set of haiku about a difficult topic--actually, I think technically--if the haiku touch human concerns they are senryu--but I am not sure about that-well enough rambling on my part
