Mohandas Gandhi Poem
"Be the change you want to see in the world." ~Gandhi
He told me to be the change I want to see
Be the person I was always meant to be
Now that person is here, and her name is Beazy
She spits from her pen and the words run free
They say knowledge is power, I say knowledge is key
To open the door, to turn on the light
To show you what’s the real way to fight
My way to right the wrongs I see is to write
To free my mind and clear my sight
From self-delusion so I can reach new heights
I’ve been lifted up under God’s grace
Freed from the shackles and bars, away from that place
To a new dimension, to one I embrace
Today I look in the mirror without disgrace
That new color you see is self-respect on my face
I’ve been given the world, I’ve been given the sky
I’m moving to the east coast and I’m gonna fly
I’m gonna open my mind and get a discerning eye
So that I can see the truth and cut out the lies
Cut out the bullshit, the whiskey and rye
‘Cause my breath is fresh and my eyes clear today
So add to my life or get out of my way
Listen up and hear what I got to say
Release your hearts to love, don’t be afraid
‘Cause we only got now, we might not have another day
I’m ready for change, I’m ready to take action
To aid this world and mend what’s been done
I stand on the firing line, today I don’t run
I stick up for my beliefs and don’t crawl before anyone
I’m sporting a tan, no longer shut off from the sun
I effect change as I lay down this fat beat
Thanks to my god I’ll never know defeat
And give thanks for the words of Mohandas Gandhi
Without them I’d be conscious, but I’d still be asleep
All I gotta do is give back and the blessings I reap
I got faith in You and I trust in the plan
Which has already changed me from a girl to a woman
And that day will come when I find that special man
Who was made for me, and then we’ll join hands
To pave the way and do the best that we can
So stand up with me, no matter your age
No matter your Jacob Marley is Caroll or Cage
Who cares if you’re purple it’s time to flip the page
Put down your hatred, put down your rage
With God on our side there’s nothing to wage
My brothers, my sisters grab hands, let’s start the change
