Playin' Possum

Updated on July 29, 2015

One little possum

There once was a possum

who wore pajamas that had pockets made of plaid

and in those plaid pockets

excuses he had

One for his mama when it came time to eat

One for his papa when it came time to sleep

Now those excuses grew bigger and bigger

until it was no use

he felt like one great big possum

in one tiny red caboose

he struggled and struggled

until he became quite weaved in his pockets (he fell asleep)

now dreaming up excuses

from his day playing make-believe

I can definitely see how this one could be misinterpreted. "Playin' Possum" is something I grew up hearing. If you were playin' possum, then you were pretending. Thanks again.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend as well!

He is a baby. He lives in a world of make-believe. He is not so much lying as he is reinterpreting the world through the lens of a baby..at least as I imagined it.

Thank you James-Wolve for reading and responding. You just made my day. Someone actually read something I wrote and gave me back feedback. Kim

Amazing and a thought provoking poem.He ran out of excuses,so now no one is going to believe him.Lies ,excuses.. can make one look like he is a big shot but at the end they will find him just a fake.I hope I am right in my interpretation :)
