Poem: Fortitude

Updated on August 21, 2011

This is a song that speaks of a woman in anguish while immersed in an abusive relationship. It speaks of the darkness of her attacker.

Fortitude

[verse I]
she walks the line head high with pride
rains flow as mist floods the path
escape no option she moves in stride
new life she's found without the mask

[chorus]
from below he creeps along
arms stretched for heels he makes no sound
into the night she steps alone
toward arms agape hallowed ground

[verse II]
heart raced she climbs the mountain
eyes wide fixed on the stars
touched by evening moon rays
her heart inspires the cause

[chorus]
from below he creeps along
arms stretched for heels he makes no sound
into the night she steps alone
toward arms agape hallowed ground

[verse III]
still waters pass & leave no clue
to the pain she holds inside
though sand escapes the hourglass
tears fallen remain un-cried

[chorus]
from below he creeps along
arms stretched for heels he makes no sound
into the night she steps alone
toward arms agape hallowed ground

[verse IV to outro]
new beginning raise windows to the soul
determined unshaken by the storm
her heart gripped in hands she holds.

from below he creeps along
arms stretched for heels he makes no sound
into the night she steps alone
toward arms agape hallowed ground

      Hauntingly beautiful song.
