Poem: Sleep
Yesterday I was finally able to Sleep.
I forgot what Sleep was,
It has been far too long.
How do I sleep with Thunder non-stop?
I do not know how I sleep,
But I do know I will Sleep when the constant Thunder is no more.
Yesterday,
Everywhere I looked,
I saw my friends’ faces
All around me,
Scaring me crazy.
Now that I’m asleep,
I no longer see my friends’ faces.
But now I see them in whole,
In the grandest of holy places.
I no longer hear the screams of the tired.
I always wished that my life was the longest of nightmares.
I was right,
I was wrong.
Before I went to Sleep,
Every day I walked the trail to Hell,
But always returned to be tired once more.
But now I am finally asleep,
I can forget the horror around me.
Now I can sleep in a quiet place & sleep forever until,
I am born into Hell once again.
Goodnight dear friends.
Goodnight.
The above, written in 2003, is about a soldier during World War One... his death.
