Poem: To my children

Updated on December 30, 2014

_____________________________

Locked up inside of me

I waited…

Unaware of the wait,

Unaware of the numbness,

Like in a dream…

Until I felt such pain….

Waking me.

Your tiny hands, feet, hearts

Gave birth to me.

Every time I held you

I grew and stretched inside myself

Larger, bigger, taller and fiercer

All inside myself…

The endless,

Sleepless,

Desperate nights

Of making,

Shaping a woman,

A mother…

Your laughter lifting me up,

Your cries pushing me down,

Your pain turning my insides out

Only to find a silvery sparkle of faith,

Raging red courage and strength,

Patience and trust…

All that, you delivered to me

By the light in your eyes…

We shaped ourselves to each other,

Breathing together,

Loving together,

Growing together,

Learning from the pain

And the love and the touches…

From you I was born…

Your tiny hearts

Making me whole.

Hi, Jamie, thanks so much for your words... It sometimes seems that words elude us and they are there inside of us, but we just can't find the right ones... I'm glad you found some words for you here... Thanks for reading, commenting and sharing. Take care and all the best!

I feel that you were able to express how I feel about my children and try to express all the time but miss the mark. Very well done. Thank you for sharing. Jamie

Hello, Brett, I'm glad you liked it... It was one of those nights when I just can't fall asleep and the words just kept popping in my mind... Anyway, it's just what happens and I hope in the future they can understand how much they changed me and I thought this might help... Thanks very much for your words and votes and shares... Take care and have a great day!

Up, awesome and beautiful ... and that is from someone who rarely likes poetry! This piece really describes the change of a woman into a mother and the bond that is formed in such an elegant way ... superb.

Sharing, tweeting, pinning, and you already have my votes ;-).

Hi, Suzettenaples, actually there are two of them... a boy and a girl... twins... and really they changed me in so many ways that I had no idea it was possible... Thanks a lot for reading, commenting and voting and I'm happy you liked it... Take care!

Such beautiful words and such a beautiful poem. What a tribute to your daughter. She is darling, BTW. I love that you allude that she gave birth to you as a mother. I love that. We learn so much about ourselves from children. Voted up and beautiful!

Hello, Sofs, thank you very much for your words, they really mean a lot to me... I think that the people we love should know how we feel and what they mean to us, how they change us and, apart from hugs and kisses, we have words, so I'm all for using them... You had a great idea, tucking poems in their lunch boxes, that is like a kiss or a hug, when you are away... Thanks for stopping by, commenting and voting! Have a wonderful day!

Oh my! This is an absolutely stunning piece of poetry from the heart. I often write little poems for my kids and tuck them in their lunch boxes, have published a few of them here .. but this one is stunning. I am humbled and speechless in front of your emotions. Voting it up all the way!

Hi, Picklesandrufus, it is amazing, isn't it? how we change and grow... I guess at first, with so much new we have learn, we don't realize it, but after a while, it hits us, how much our kids give us, how they change us, how they give us courage and strength... I'm happy you liked it and thanks for stopping by, commenting and voting! Take care!

Wow! I never thought of the birth of a child in this way, but it is true. You are born into your full purpose. Simply beautiful!!!!Vote up and beautiful
