This is Thoughtful Thoroughbred Haiku from the Famous Horses who speak for themselves.

from Smarty Jones, (lost) 2004 Belmont Stakes -

My fans chant for me

While thundering hoofs I pound

Short of a twelfth Crown

from Point Given, (lost) 2001 Kentucky Derby -

Expectation's roars.....Fall before I reach the line.....Roses quickly lost

Source

from Funny Cide, (lost) 2003 Belmont Stakes -

Mud and slop hit me

Rain continued down and 'round,

Dismissed my own Crown

from Barbaro, (DNF) 2006 Preakness Stakes -

May Roses I wore.....Looking for Black-Eyed-Susans.....Gone in a bone snap

Source

from Curlin, (lost) 2007 Belmont Stakes -

Preakness record done

I closed in the Belmont lane

A girl's nose beaten

from Rachel Alexandra, (won) 2009 Preakness -

Calvin's on my back.....Rushing me along the track.....Rival boys get shocked

Source

from Zenyatta, (won) 2009 Breeders' Cup Classic -

Large long dark I'm unique

Hoofs heart stride shockingly good,

A boys race I take

from Monarchos, (won) 2001 Kentucky Derby -

Records I knew break.....When Roses await the score.....Big Red still stands tall

Source

from Fusaichi Pegasus, (won) 2000 Kentucky Derby -

I honor Japan

Tough ready none on my heels

Yet no new record

from Big Brown, (lost) 2008 Belmont Stakes -

Beautiful Ups brown.....Ready willing for the prize.....Changed my big brown mind

Source

from War Emblem, (lost) 2002 Belmont Stakes -

Derby Preakness won

Gungho my ancestors cry,

Stumble an upset

from Mine That Bird, (won) 2009 Kentucky Derby -

Sire beat Smarty Jones.....Birdstone brothers whisper soft.....Father's act renewed

Hoping these Thoughtful..... Thoroughbred Haiku reached well..... The horsey in you!

      @DanaTeresa...Thanks for complimenting this Hub!

The Travers could be a big race this season if Hansen and Bodemeister end up in it. With I'll Have Another's injury, Hansen and Bodemeister could have a lot to say about 2012's Three-Year-Old Male Champion and Horse of the Year.

This is so clever. I love it.... I live only about 30 minutes from Saratoga Race Course (the graveyard of champions). The Travers is the big race there. I have been going there every summer my whole life. It is a beautiful track with lawns and vendors that sell arts and crafts. Looking forward to when it opens in July :)

      @TripleAMom...Mutual feelings, here, for certain!

Do you follow the Thoroughbred racing in Florida? Lots of stars come out of the Florida Derby. I write extensively about racing on Suite101, and am currently hoping for our first Triple Crown champ in I'll Have Another when he runs in the Belmont Stakes in New York on June 9. (You have to love his name!)

Thanks Barbs-the place we were going for her lessons closed so I have to find another place. She's been doing some other things (volleyball and basketball) but her first love is horses. Will keep reading your work for sure :)

@TripleAMom...Nice getting to know you following one another on Hubpages, and I appreciate your compliment!

Thanks for stopping here, for the horses we really do love! I enjoy writing about Thoroughbreds in particular, but I support kindness to all animals, as well, as I'm sure you must, also.

Kudos to your daughter, and thanks to her, too, for reading. I wish her luck re-entering the sport of jumping.

Hi, went to your site after your comment on mine and found lots of horse stuff. WE love horses. My daugter used to ride and jump and really wants to get back into it. Love the way you did a haiku for each of the horses you highlighted. My daughter loved the pics. Voted up and following.
