Poetry: Haiku for The Thoroughbred Racehorse
This is Thoughtful Thoroughbred Haiku from the Famous Horses who speak for themselves.
from Smarty Jones, (lost) 2004 Belmont Stakes -
My fans chant for me
While thundering hoofs I pound
Short of a twelfth Crown
from Point Given, (lost) 2001 Kentucky Derby -
Expectation's roars.....Fall before I reach the line.....Roses quickly lost
from Funny Cide, (lost) 2003 Belmont Stakes -
Mud and slop hit me
Rain continued down and 'round,
Dismissed my own Crown
from Barbaro, (DNF) 2006 Preakness Stakes -
May Roses I wore.....Looking for Black-Eyed-Susans.....Gone in a bone snap
from Curlin, (lost) 2007 Belmont Stakes -
Preakness record done
I closed in the Belmont lane
A girl's nose beaten
from Rachel Alexandra, (won) 2009 Preakness -
Calvin's on my back.....Rushing me along the track.....Rival boys get shocked
from Zenyatta, (won) 2009 Breeders' Cup Classic -
Large long dark I'm unique
Hoofs heart stride shockingly good,
A boys race I take
from Monarchos, (won) 2001 Kentucky Derby -
Records I knew break.....When Roses await the score.....Big Red still stands tall
from Fusaichi Pegasus, (won) 2000 Kentucky Derby -
I honor Japan
Tough ready none on my heels
Yet no new record
from Big Brown, (lost) 2008 Belmont Stakes -
Beautiful Ups brown.....Ready willing for the prize.....Changed my big brown mind
from War Emblem, (lost) 2002 Belmont Stakes -
Derby Preakness won
Gungho my ancestors cry,
Stumble an upset
from Mine That Bird, (won) 2009 Kentucky Derby -
Sire beat Smarty Jones.....Birdstone brothers whisper soft.....Father's act renewed
Hoping these Thoughtful..... Thoroughbred Haiku reached well..... The horsey in you!
