Police And Thieves
Police and thieves sit around the table
Eyeing each other with the jaundiced eyes
Practiced in the ways they respect but dislike each other
Each one daring the other to make the first move
I don't believe in police says the first thief
If they exist it's only to scare us basic folk
With talk of the prisons and life without parole
But I don't believe they really exist
Never seen a policeman or woman
Never seen an arrest
Read the lawbooks and even those who claim to believe in police
Don't do what it says
Then the thief roles another cigarette
Checks out the woman at the bar
And fingers the wallet he lifted on the way into the bar
Whose business is it anyway?
You're all idiots responds the first policeman
What's been made clear to you is something
You're just too stupid to see
You don't want to see it, you want to just go on living
Like there are no consequences
You just don't care about anyone but yourselves
There you go trying to scare us again rejoined the first thief
But we don't believe in your judge, and the law is only so
You don't have to think for yourselves
You should be scared replied the first policeman
The judge is judging everybody, you and me both
And the rest of your life is a very long time
To never get to see the sun
Argument broke out
Glasses were thrown
A shot rang out
It was a dark and stormy night
The ill wind blew nobody good
And then they all went to their homes
For a hot meal and a bath
While the storm clouds gathered on the horizon
