Poem: Girls Sold, Including Facts & Information about Trafficking for Sexual Exploitation.
Facts About Sexual Exploitation:
-
Trafficking for sexual exploitation is the second largest and fastest growing criminal industry in the world. Traffickers make an estimate $32 billion yearly.
-
Experts estimate trafficking for sexual exploitation accounts for 80% of all trafficking.
-
Girls trafficked for prostitution are as young as 12-14 years of age.
-
Health risks for victims is premature death: homicide, suicide, drug & alcohol related problems, HIV infection.
-
Countries ranked high as destination countries of trafficked persons: Belgium, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Thialand, Turkey & the U.S.
Girls promised an attractive job abroad; never to be seen or heard again!
The purpose of this hub is to create awareness for the hundreds of women and girls who are trafficked daily for the purpose of sexual exploitation. The problem has become an epidemic in the past decade, affecting every region worldwide, crossing all social and economic boundaries.
Traffickers lure women with promises of jobs as nannies, models, and factory workers, instead women are trafficked into prostitution, stripping, including massage parlours that offer a variety of sexual services, including domestic servitude. Victims are prevented from leaving by the use of threats, violence, debt bondage, and withholding documents.
The problem is fueled by poverty, however not in all cases. Many victims are not just runaways or abandoned, but are from good families who got tricked by clever traffickers. The demand is high, which makes it a profitable business for traffickers, unlike drugs, humans can be sold repeatedly. A pimp can buy a women for $10,000 - 500 and make that money back in a week, than everything else is profit.
Countries which score high where women and girls are trafficked from are Belarus, the republic of Maldova, Russia and Ukraine, Albania, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Romania, China, Thialand, and Nigeria. These trafficked victims need legal protection. Non-governmental organisations call for arrested trafficking victims to be housed in suitable shelters, not in jail or detention facilities. At present, there are few shelters and limited funds allocated for victims.
What is the answer to child trafficking? YOU. Please raise awareness by lending your voice. Join the fight to end slavery, I have listed below a few organisations which are combating modern-day slavery on the front line. Thankyou.
Girls Sold, Bought, Trapped, A Poem
Dirty criminals reap, buying girls dirt cheap
Profiting thousands in hours, they play upon their fears
To keep them tied at will, vaginal trauma, helpless souls
Forced to toss their parts, to feed the hungry pigs!
Eyes no longer scream for help, they`re stilled by violent threats.
Controlled, hit, burned, cut, raped; using drugs to self-medicate
To numb the brain, elimanate, flashbacks of cruel abuse
Loss of appetite, insomnia, dizzy spells, fear, anxiety!
Deprivation of essential needs, permitted very little sleep
Working round the clock, serving up to thirty blokes a day.
Suicidal thoughts bring hope, to end this horrid nightmare
Sold, re-sold, HIV, PTSD, I beg- pull the trigger
I`m worth everything to you, nothing to myself.
Like flowers without sunlight
their life withers in the dark,
Sun goes down, nolonger rises.
The answer to trafficking is YOU
Lets lend our voice, make some noise
For every girl to shine in freedom!
