Priorities and Writing
“YOU NEED TO GET YOUR PRIORITES STRAIGHT.” I am sure we have heard this line at least once in our lives. What are priorities? People have different priorities so who is to say that their priorities are not straight? We just see them maybe as unjustified perhaps? What does priorities have to do with writing you ask? Well a lot in fact.
So You Want To Be a Writer?
Cliché line, but it works. You want to be a writer right? You have been inspired! You may want to make the big bucks? You may want to be famous, the next New York Bestseller. That is nice in all but a lot of people fall short with this goal and dream. People have lives, jobs, families so finding time to write can be hard( Also those are really bad reasons to be a writer.) This is where priorities fit in. How high a priority is writing in your life? Also what steps will you take to make it happen?
Taking Time
Take some time and write down what your top priorities are. Where does writing fit in it? If You want to make money in the writing business writing is going to have to be a high priority in your life. I wanted to be a writer. I have made writing a high priority in my life. Sometimes I wonder if it was the best choice, but here I am. I also went into this realistically. I knew this was going to be hard work. I knew I would I have to work hard in this if I wanted this. Life and circumstances have also played in my favor which I have now been able to truly focus on my writing. Writing is all I have at the moment. I did have a life once, yet I still managed to work in my writing. I would bring my notebook to work with me and work on book during breaks we had throughout the day. When my young son took take a nap I would write. When he went to bed for the night I would write. While cooking dinner I even wrote! There were times though when nothing came to me. I had nothing! What did I do? I wrote about that! I was still writing! If writing is your passion make it a priority too. Find time to write everyday even if its the chore to do list you are writing!
