Ode to Pumpkin Season

Updated on October 29, 2012

Pumpkin season's drawing nigh,

what wouldn't I do for pumpkin pie!

To miss one slice is cause to cry,

tastes so good it makes me sigh.

Pumpkin season's drawing nigh,

leaves are falling from on high.

Jump right in there, don’t be shy,

all too soon the snow will fly!

Pumpkin season's drawing nigh,

summer’s flowers in sleep will lie.

With old man winter we’ll have to vie;

to chase the chill let’s drink some Rye!

This is a great poem. It has good rhythm and the words are easy to follow and make a lot of sense. Voted up and interesting.

Thanks Kate! It was just a whimsy that I went ahead and published for fun.

Great poem! It gets me in the mood for my families annual "Pumpkin Day" tomorrow. My parents have a farm and grow pumpkins for all the grandkids to pick. We always go down to the farm right before Halloween for a hayride, BBQ, and pumpkin picking!

Glad I was able to help you 'get in the mood' Kim. Fall is truly

the best season of the year in my mind.

Just carved our pumpkins last night. Also agree so strongly with the first stanza, I live for pie. Jamie

Thank you Audrey, it was fun writing something a bit whimsical for a change!

Pie is one of life's delights, isn't it Jamie? thanks for the compliment.

Thank you Miss1, the rhyme is almost the only thing this one has, but I like it still.

Thank you Dotti. Autumn is also my favorite season; it moves me to write like no other time of year. I'm pleased that you derived some joy from this one, even though it was just a whim.
