Questions in Our Minds
Introduction
Last month I was a little bored at home and in order to spend some quality time helping someone, I ended up answering some questions that people have asked. I was so amazed to find out that there are so many people experiencing depression and I kept receiving questions based on depression . Some of my thoughts are here.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Deeper the thoughts, louder the voices in your head
Evading people, spending time on bed
Paused life, time seems longer than breath
Restless heart wanting to embrace death
Ending the wretched pain seems to be the only way
Stressful sleepless nights wanting a restful day
Sinking and struggling, suffocating and fighting
In an overwhelming emotional life's juggling
On going battle between sadness and gladness
Nothing matters to a depressive heart hidden in loneliness.
If one has a grateful heart, self acceptance and how much of a blessing you are to another person, I think even if one occasionally feels sadness, probably won't feel overloaded or overwhelmed with sadness :)
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
— Jeremiah 29:11
Questions
1. What can family members do to help someone with depression if they will not seek medical help?
Be a listener, an encourager and a cheerleader. Don't keep the depressed person isolated for too long. Give chores or keep them occupied. Pray and praise God. Meditate on the book of Psalms :) Let that person know that he/she is a blessing and an assert to the family. If possible take to a therapist or doctor incase depression is due to a chemical imbalance.
2. Why do people become uncomfortable when talking about depression?
Guilt, shame, insecurity, anger, fear of rejection and being vulnerable. It is better that the depression being addressed and help the ones who feel depressed to overcome those above things.
3. Why do depressed people gravitate towards depressed people?
Everyone is depressed over something. I was surprised when I went for counseling, a lady said although she helps other people by listening and giving advice, after hearing all the sadness, she too feel depressed. So she write all the thoughts and health issues of her clients in a book. Get the load off of her inner being and she feels much better. For me also writing helps more than talking :) I think helping another feels much better and happiness to the heart.
4. How did you deal with depression? What made you depressed in the first place?
I didn't know that I was having clinical depression due to a chemical imbalance up until I was twenty three . Being an introvert and the death of my father when I was eleven years I was going through overwhelmed sadness. I had counseling, medicine and knowing that I'm special and valuable to Jesus Christ, my family and friends greatly helped :)
5. Why do some people experience seasonal effective disorder in seasons outside of winter? Shouldn't the warmer times of the year make them less anxious and depressed?
I don't know much about seasonal effect on a person. As far as I know, during cold season, people tend to be lethargic and unproductive. Likes to be in warm areas. However, in day today life, most of the people are anxious about what they need to eat, what to wear, making a good impression, salary, whether they would meet their necessacities during the day, week or monthly. Facing before an examination, after the examination, when the results are out. In an interview, dating….etc. some are having social anxiety. Even perfectionist tend to experience lot of anxiety and the failure to meet the desired result could end up in depression. I hope this help…
