Remember You (poem)
You fed me lies while I swallowed them whole
One by one I let it settle into my stomach
Until the seeds of doubt began to take root
And the sickness began to spread through me
You didn't even bother to appease me
You just let me spin and spin more out of control
Until all the mirrors of illusions shattered
And I was left on the ground
Watching you as you came to me
Placed a tender kiss on my forehead
Told me it was time for you to go
I just watched as you turned from me
watched your shoes until they turned the corner
And here I am again to pick up those pieces
Here I am to force myself to my feet
Long abandoned hope of a naive soul
praying for your presence to fill the void
Well, I hope you understand that I managed
to make it through the darkness of my mind
I managed to walk through fire and ice
to find the new skin beneath the old
Some day, I will find it in myself
to forgive you for breaking me
I want to know just one thing
how could you lie straight to my face
Make me feel protected and safe
to only watch me fall apart in the end
