Remember When (poem)

Updated on January 8, 2013

Remember when you blew a kiss my way

And dreams were filled with all which we would do

How could we let those times just slip away

-

Two youths who put their love upon display

With one grand moment holding their love new

Remember when you blew a kiss my way

-

And so alive with life and hope they’d stay

They gave each care each flare each fair its due

How could we let those times just slip away

-

As they enhanced such hearts were held in sway

And though they grew this promise lingered true

Remember when you blew a kiss my way

-

But then one night her mirror caused dismay

What happened to that youth which once she knew

How could we let those times just slip away

-

I held her through the richness of our day

And all the dreams which we had privy to

Remember when you blew a kiss my way

How could we let those times just slip away

Each memory more precious like a jewellery box filled with a string less pearl necklace.

Unfortunately, love fades. Sometimes it is replaced with criticism and days forgotten of what brought it forth in the first place. Keeping love alive is the key. My key seems to have slipped into the drain.....

A poignant capture of how fleeting love's moments really are, and how careless we can be as their owners. . . .or do they own us, esp. as we get a little older? You have an easy almost innate sense of the musical cadence of the language. Very well done...thank you.

I know what you mean by a special moment; sometimes we want it to happen time and time again just to recapture its sweetness. Wonderful words.

      Voted up,

This is exquisite Martin, thosetender precious moments didn't slip away, they are tucked away in your hearts.

I have not attempted a villanelle, you have written this one perfectly.

Martin, a beautiful villanelle, I love the haunting refrain, and the tender reminiscing. Brilliant as always.

Hi Martin. If I could only wish youthfulness in love to never fade, I had wished for it over and over again. That way I can at least be sure that those blows of kisses will not just slip away, but remain as sweet as it always has been. Beautiful poem, thank you.
