SHADOWS OF THE PAST : SILHOUETTES [ A POEM ]

Sometimes, it is hard to erase the past mistakes in ones life. To some, it continues to haunt them while others learn to live with it but a few ve learnt to write about it and continue to live. This poem writes of what goes through the mind. Enjoy!

SHADOWS OF THE PAST : SILHOUETTES [ A POEM ]

At the palm of my foot, I looked

A colossal iniquity

I perused a keg

A collection of pain

A congregated sorrow

The taunting soul

The back breaker

I looked at time

Flashes played my intelligence

I watched with a distressed face

Panting in hopelessness

Grasping for breathe

An ancient curse

A sin of yesteryears

A lie told with force

That was the beginning of disaster

Many years ve counted

Its shadows re back

Chasing me like a bee

Making me a disaster

It has cramped my morale

It has brought me plagues

I am lost in the shadows of my past

Silhouettes ve caged my heart

But am relentless

Knowing that there is no future without the past

I will stand & let the future rule my past.

I believe that a writer/poet leaves behind his part/soul in each and every work of his, one (reader) just have to relate to it. This poem is really a truth in everyone's life, but how we all accept and face is what matters. Your optimistic approach of life is reflected brightly at the end of your poem, "Knowing that there is no future without the past

I will stand & let the future rule my past."

      Beautiful poem.

      Nice Poem!!

Yes we all make mistakes that we regret but mistakes are for a reason to learn the hard way or to do better the next time. We are humans and will all err to errors and sin. Our desire should be to strive to do better and we have God as our friend who is most willing to HELP us along the way

Your words are filled with spirit, and deepness indeed, its my turn to follow you as many have before, because I sense you have a greater purpose on hubpages than many.

Like myself I'm also a poet so I see as you do in many ways, and your temperament as a writer. I commend you for having such courage too share these thoughts with us all. Voted up!

      Beautifully written.

We need to learn from our mistakes and not dwell on them.

We can't enjoy our life to the fullest if we are stuck in the past.

On Friday night I saw a play called Fela about Nigerian activist Fela Kuti. The show was thought provoking and filled with so much energy. I really enjoyed the sounds of the "afrobeat."

      Voted up, up and away!

up, useful, awesome, and beautiful Ubanichijioke. I know how daunting of a task living with regret is for sure. You are right, them shadows can follow us and haunt us our whole life. Even though we can't live in the past, sometimes we have to fix things from the past to move to the future. This poem hits home my friend. You have to live for right now and the future. Brilliantly written.

My motto is "leave the past where it belongs- in the past." Focus on the NOW, not the past and not the future. Live for today...take one day at a time. God bless, Ubani!

A poignant poem you have written here.

The key 'I will stand & let the future rule my past.'

We all make mistakes. It is those mistakes that lead us to be who and where we are now. The main thing is to put those mistakes in the past where they belong. They cannot be changed. So tuck them away and live for today.

i have to agree with Hubertsvoice and SubRon... it good to be aware of your past so that you dont repeat it but always look ahead. its easier said than done but we are all on our own learning curb and sometimes it takes a few trys to set ourselves straight. (dont look at my path! it looks like a ball of twine...)

Very moving poetry, Urbanichijioke. Yes, past mistakes, and so many of them, can haunt us forever, but, as you said in your poetry, we canot let the past rule us.

      Good job!
