Simple Moments
By: Wayne Brown
What memories did I leave in your mind?
Maybe, maybe not, only you can say
Do you still remember my face or name?
Or was it all discarded along the way?
Moments in time seem so important in our past
But they are just moments left behind
Life moves ahead for us and we move along
Seldom reaching back for ties that bind
Love finds us given the time and space to try
But its timing is not always the best
Two people in the same space and time embrace
Yet only in that moment; not the rest
Thoughts of yesterday seemingly from nowhere
Reminding one of those days so far behind
Simple moments yet memories which endure
Brought back anew by just a simple song line
Were those just romantic forks in our life road?
Put there to test our choices; to see where we turn
Landmarks along life’s highway in time
Sometimes in darkness, like a candle they still burn
Maybe it was just the pandering of our youth
Experimenting with our emotions turned asunder
Casually cast away as nothing in their time
Now returning to our mind; causing us to wonder
I guess we were only sailing ships passing in the night
Bound for other destinations in other times
Passing so close yet never quite stopping
Continuing on our plotted path ignoring all the signs
Whatever we were, we will probably never really know
Too much time and life has past us by to really say
Do you really still remember my face or name?
Or was it all discarded along the way?
