Simple Moments

Updated on September 8, 2014

By: Wayne Brown

What memories did I leave in your mind?

Maybe, maybe not, only you can say

Do you still remember my face or name?

Or was it all discarded along the way?

Moments in time seem so important in our past

But they are just moments left behind

Life moves ahead for us and we move along

Seldom reaching back for ties that bind

Love finds us given the time and space to try

But its timing is not always the best

Two people in the same space and time embrace

Yet only in that moment; not the rest

Thoughts of yesterday seemingly from nowhere

Reminding one of those days so far behind

Simple moments yet memories which endure

Brought back anew by just a simple song line

Were those just romantic forks in our life road?

Put there to test our choices; to see where we turn

Landmarks along life’s highway in time

Sometimes in darkness, like a candle they still burn

Maybe it was just the pandering of our youth

Experimenting with our emotions turned asunder

Casually cast away as nothing in their time

Now returning to our mind; causing us to wonder

I guess we were only sailing ships passing in the night

Bound for other destinations in other times

Passing so close yet never quite stopping

Continuing on our plotted path ignoring all the signs

Whatever we were, we will probably never really know

Too much time and life has past us by to really say

Do you really still remember my face or name?

Or was it all discarded along the way?

@Just Ask Susan...The universe seems to turn on the smallest of things. The slightest shift of weight changes the directions of the future and the course of life. I think that is the part that causes us to look back and remember....and sometimes wonder "what if". WB

Memories of past loves are so special to hang onto and I often wonder if I am remembered as fondly as I remember them. Beautiful poem!

@haikutwinkle...Thanks much. Old memories sometimes have a way of shaping themselves toward the fond side of our bias. I suppose that makes them more palatable! LOL! Thanks for the read and the comments. WB

I think we remember all our encounters. And when we are mad at the one we're with our memory sharpens drastically! Up beautiful and awesome.

This is indeed lovely and dings the heart with longing, regret and wondering. I often go "there" and wonder just what you wrote. Wow. Just an amazing read.

You reminded me, Wayne, with this beautiful poetry that we are all at times like those sailing ships of old, Sailing past rocky shoals to reach the shore and whatever promise it may hold.

WB - This is lovely poetry. I think our past very much makes us who we are. Memories cannot truly be discarded. We are all touched by others and we affect others too -- by our actions and words. Sadly, when we are young and immature, we make poor choices - often behaving selfishly or impulsively. But do-overs are few and regrets are often counter-productive. Every day that we are blessed with a new sunrise, we have the opportunity to improve our lives and those with whom we come in contact.

I love the video too. The sound of water is refreshing and cleansing. I think of rain as heaven's tears of joy.

I guarantee she remembers you... You're too deep for her to not remember the swim to the bottom of the sea man...

I don't think any encounter is ever discarded. They make us who we are and who we become. The older I get the more I remember. I guess life unfolds as it should. Wonderful musings.

Simply beautiful, I enjoyed this so much, listening and reading over and over again. It took me back in my time, to the encounters I had, shared, loved and departed to seek another adventure in time, another chapter in my unwritten book of life experiences.

Yet I remember so fondly many ladies who walked in and out of my life, we had fond moments, shared dreams together, looked to our futures together, yet never ever materialized into a solid foundation. When one finally did, it crumbled after 18 years, one could ask how can that be?

Is it me? well I asked myself that question time and time again and found the solution. Yes it was mainly me, I was not surrounded by a loving family as a boy and I truly believe today that had an impact on my destiny, my encounters with ladies and marriages. I had to come to realize that I had to stay single, I was one of the UNLOVED of the world, therefore how could I possibly share it truly, when I really didn't know what it was.

Great write Wayne and the video accompanied it was fit for the words, we all have secrets, that was mine. In order to give love and show love, you must have it in your own heart before you can share it with others. Now I reflect and accept my destiny and journey in my life.

WB - this was everything but funny. So true we rarely do think about these things - yet this actually I bet, makes everyone who reads it reflect for a moment.

A sad song far too many of us have had to sing.

      Well done, Wayne!
