Self Serving All Your Life, Brings No Rewards

Updated on February 05, 2015

No emotion. No mercy.!

Let no-one get in your way.

Feelings in check.....! No pity.

You'll become a machine one day.

Get harder. Stay stronger

than any in front of you.

Soon they'll be lagging behind,

Way behind the emotionless you.

What a waste.! What a life!.

You could have been loved.

No emotion..... Your mistake..

Now you're old and being shoved,

Not loved.

You thought you'd prolong your life,

But you've elongated your death.

Not loved. Not cared for,

Just as you cared for no one..

We need emotion.

We all need to love.

Need to feel loved.

Not you..

Your mistake.

Very sad on one level and terrifying on another... to spend a life doing all that we are told is important to get ahead and miss the reason we are here in the first place. I've known people like this and at the end of life, all they want is a friendly face. It reminds me of A Christmas Carol. Beautifully said, Dim. A mistake... a fatal mistake.

Very profound write here! Yes, we all need to love and be loved. I could not imagine where one would push people away and but to each his own, and then he creates his own misery.

      Voted up +++

Emotion is part of who we are and how we express ourselves and to negate that is to become cold, calculating and unloved. You portray this so well in your poem, it's really good and what the writing of poetry is all about, too.

Thank you faith reaper. It is sad when people concentrate only on themselves hoping to live a long life of luxury. Stepping on others toreach the top. Without love we have nothinv

Hi Dim Flaxenwick, I found you this morning just a few minutes ago. I read a few of your hubs and I love them all. This one is very good. I completely agree with the meaning you expressed with this poem, but I couldn't write it out as well as you wrote. Thank you very much for expressing it for me.

Well done Dim. To be loved you have to show and feel true emotional love for others. Voted up.

      Dim Flaxenwick,

Wow, this is powerful and saddening, all at the same time. I recognize this place, I've seen it in loved ones. It makes you want to grab them by the shoulders and shake some sense into them... 'don't you want to be loved for who you are under all that?' I totally got this!

'You thought you'd prolong your life,

But you've elongated your death.' - That was my favorite!

      Excellent!

      Dim,

I immediately recognized this once I began reading it, but it's amazing how the same words can take on a whole new meaning, reading them again. It's a little more painful this time around... but I'm sure it's caused you some relief. I still love this piece and I understand the words, clearly.

      Have a wonderful day!
