Shattered Beauty

Updated on April 5, 2014
Source

Beautiful

but the shell is melting away

like tears through mascara

finding refuge in fibers

staining her snow white dress

inkblots appear

angels crying

devils mirth

but she dances on

as strong as iron

and harder than stone

kingdoms fall

at a woman's groan

barefoot pirouette

through clouded eyes

she allows him

beautiful

but it is shattered

and falls like pieces

of porcelain from a doll

tinkling on tile

like her toes

he takes her

and she dances under the moonlight

she dances in the twighlight

she dances under the dim yellow light

that casts its pallor over the kitchen

she dances for him

and he takes her

there on floral covered formica

beautiful

melting down the drain

he tap dances away

and porcelain pricks his heel

while she picks up broken pieces

and with them

applies a smile to her face

because as he slumbers

poison is setting in

and under hells light

she will dance upon his grave

Creator made everything wonderful and pleasing for us and we get delighted in all pleasures except His last finishing touch ! When I read this poem, the climax resembles that touch ! Wayne, I love your creativity. Voted up.

The poem is haunting. The ending is statistically all too true. She will outlive him. The creepy, macabre thing about the statistic is that people are so tragically oblivious to the obvious when it comes to taking care of themselves. The poison given may well have been the rich foods he wanted which she fed him. It probably hastened the fall of her own beauty, as well.

Wow, Wayne. At first I thought the poem was about how a woman ages; losing her outer beauty while still being beautiful on the outside. And then, bam! I was not expecting that ending! Guess he did something to piss her off!!

I love your poetry Wayne. A few of your poems were the first I read on Hub pages and they inspired me. This is no exception, you put the "creepy' into 'Macabre". Great ending. Voted 'awesome'.

Wow, I didn't expect that ending either, however a great poet like yourself uses the macabre very gallantly, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, I wonder what she had on her mind wild conjuring up such a poisonous plan. I loved it Wayne, you never fail to deliver my poetic brother.
