Silent Storms

Updated on February 12, 2017
Her eyes are wide open
Yet, she can't see a thing

The skies are dark-
And there's no sound.

A hallowed blackness surrounds-
..she can feel something..

A steady vibration,
Beginning at the core...

She's never felt anything
Infinitely powerful before

For a second- she felt
Gravity increasing and time come to a stop.

Down to her knees...
She drops.

Her thoughts-
relentlessly shrieking inside her mind.

Shes weathered, worn.
And it doesn't matter how long she prepared-

Her heart is her gravity.
She's been avoiding this moment -- so many years...

And comes,
The Silent Storms-
Manifesting from her fears

In one breath she admits
she'd rather take this chance

Than to face
The alternative.

With clenched fists,
She pounds on floor

Picks herself up with dignity,
And does something she hadn't done before...

Lightning begins to light her way-
The clouds stir, moving rapidly

Changing into shades
Of Violet and Blue

She could see the emotions
She believed she kept at bay..

Surrounded her in a large, midnight hue and circular wave.
She looks up to the angry, yet sad dark sky-

And wishes she could become like the Eagle...
Soar up above the storms.

Though her bones are hollow-
Her feet are moored to the ground.

She won't be able to fly-
She will drown.

She spins slowly,
facing images of her memories in the water.

They flash, they dance-
Hurricanes form in the back..

She braces herself,
holds her breath

As the waves
crash down
upon her...

haha, thank you Kenneth, truly appreciate you stopping by again and asking me about about it. I wrote this piece with intense emotion. The water that surrounded her was the emotions she couldn't see, never wanted to feel so she used all her strength to keep it away. But after realizing how anchored holding back made her feel, she decided to let go and embrace her emotions. What shes feeling is an epiphany, and a combination of feeling liberated but also imprisoned. Does she float or drown?

      Jayley,

Forgive my stopping by again, but in re-reading your beautiful piece of poetry, I found that in the middle of the poem, you are allowing the girl to "feel" something and that something is not of human form or emotion.

      Am I right???

      Great piece of poetry.

      Jayley,

Fantastic wording and imagery made with your ideas in words.

      I loved it.

I am pretty much about Abstract/Prose poetry. You might check

my latest, "Beggar's Lament," and let me know what you think.

      Honored to read your works.

      Honored too to follow.

A great poem touching to the depths of one's feelings. It is both emotional and scary. The presentation is too much appreciated.
