The date was our first, it was a wonderful night
I looked in her eyes, things were going all right
It was nice, it was good, then all went askew
she whispered with smile and said "I love you"
I stammered, I stuttered, I fiddled for word
but I found no escape from the words that I heard
she was locked on my eye, she awaited reply
I quivered, I quaked, I looked back at the eye
It wanted an answer and it would not wait
It wanted it now from our very first date
I smiled through my teeth and with eloquent aim
I looked square at the eye and said, what was your name?
