Someday Is Here

Some have missed the picnic

Waiting for the ants.

The wonderment of life

Is all that happens

In between attempts

To think about it.

______© Nellieanna H. Hay

Attempts to tangle with the past

Which cannot be altered or improved

Simply dull the present now which can be.

Attempting to control the future

Which cannot be shaped till it arrives

Only slights the present which now IS.

The tempting time to be is here and now

To 'do the do’ and make it,

To tango with life now; 'n here, to shape it!

Time tenses are semantic illusion. The 'past' we recall and the 'future' we visualize are simply activities of our imaginative 'present' moments. There is some pleasure and little harm in those activities, unless one believes they are 'real' or unless too much of one's real moments are usurped by these activities.

Never been right here before;

Nor will ever be again!

Each time and place, so new, so now,

So 'yes', so real, so free!

I wonder what will happen

And who I’ll really be!

I found myself, my soul

So long ago by chance

On yonder verdant hill,

Now I am becoming me.

I sing! I play! I laugh! I dance!

I cry when e'er need be.

Would I impose

More shackles on?

Should I not run away?

For if I’d fail to see my path,

I’d surely have to stay

Where I could not be free.

Where trivial things repose,

Where I could merely dream

Of where it really goes.

Oh, no! I’ll go along my way

It’s too long getting here

To doubt.

The path at times, so steep,

The price I’ve paid,

Too dear -

To start to chicken out.

If errors are a prospect,

Then so is all that’s gained.

I must be here and now, alive -

And never be detained.

Were I a little mousie

In my housie’s wall

I might see what’s ahead and hide.

But since I’m merely I,

And have no crystal ball,

I take my every step in stride

With all my courage tall

And joy that’s unrestrained.

It’s not some distant time to come,

When all the things are done,

Not some other moon or sun,

A dream ‘someday’ that's further on.

It’s here, it’s now, that one can live

Or ever be deprived.

I glory in this thing called LIFE

Which happens every moment clear.

To have it, one need only BE

IN each and every moment here

Ecstatically right now; and totally ALIVE.

Where or When

Experience and time

Swallow up my people

All too soon.

Where do they go?

And how?

Not in my Now are they,

For theirs continue, too; -

Somewhere else in theirs are they,

Or into what-comes-after.

But gone from mine;

Disappeared from touch and view,

And sounds of joyful laughter

Except in this mere memory,

Seeming to bring them here anew,

So that the spirit races,

Almost alive and breathing, feeling

All love's sweetest traces.

But if they are alive and breathing,

It's elsewhere, on a distant shore;

While here on mine, nevermore

Can they surprise with hugs and presence

Reserved for their own sphere.

These thoughts and memories cannot fulfill

A need to touch, to feel,

To share what's dear and real,,

Experienced only in the ever-new

Eternal, living Here and Now

That's everywhere at once,

Defying limits,

Surpassing time and space.

I am grateful for it, - aren't you?

I awaken in the mornings and think, if only subconsciously, “Hey! THIS is my LIFE. It’s not ‘going to happen someday’. If I miss it now, - I’ve just missed it! If not now, when? The moments of awareness will always only be in and of the Now.

"Even if the taxes are due, the pipes are stopped up, and some of the people I trusted are doing what they do, (which is doing what some of them are going to do!) - my life is alive Now and is what I claim for it as it happens!”

So I just don’t feel guilty or a need to justify it if I claim some of my Now for nourishing my heart, body and soul. Tomorrow, - if it comes, - no one else will know the difference, but if it comes for me, I will!~

Consciously, every day I actually spontaneously say - out loud to myself and the air - “I’m happy!” Because Happy isn’t a by-product of things, possessions, activities, what gets done or doesn't - or what other people do or don’t do. It’s a vital environment within oneself, which radiates out into all the other variables of one's life.
