Spotlight on Author Lisa Scott

Updated on August 17, 2012

Have you ever just wanted to get to the good parts of a romance novel? You know, the parts of the book where the really important details are fleshed out; the bits where you get to know the main characters and their plight instead of having to wade through page after page of useless imagery descriptions, dancing around the main plot, and an overall drawn out dilemma that tries to keep our hero and heroine from admitting their true feelings and giving in to their love for one another. Usually, if it’s a Harlequin or some other work of fiction dealing with the culmination of two souls who are meant to end up as one by the time you get to the last page, we’re talking minimum 200 pages. And I’m sure there are a lot of people that have wondered this question over the years: Isn’t there an express version of these stories that I can get with the same quality?

For once, the answer to that particular question is actually “yes”.

Enter the romantic E-book short story sensation author, Lisa Scott.

I was pretty skeptical when I came across her short stories that range somewhere between 10,000 and 15,000 words on average, selling for $0.99 each, and her compilation books in which you can get the same short story collections in a bundle for less money at $2.99 on Amazon that are meant to tell a love story in under forty pages. I scoffed, but ended up grabbing one of her free books just to test the waters, so to speak.

That’s when I became a believer.

The thing that I love most about these “power romance” novels (my own nickname for them since they pack a decent punch in less than half the pages) is that Lisa Scott is not only up front about their lengths, she is also not trying to deceive you with the kind of plot she’s selling. Let me explain. There are a lot of authors trying to masquerade their books as Romance, when in actuality it’s literary pornography, but that is a far cry from what Lisa’s writing about. If you want a good old fashioned love story in which you can sink your teeth along with feeling a connection to the characters themselves instead of having to wade through pages and pages of smut to get to the point where the two of them have their happy ending, grabbing up one of Scott’s little stories is the cure-all.

Each one of her stories I’ve read has a nice bit of heart to it, and despite them being a tad predictable at some points, Lisa Scott gives her own unique spin on each tale. They’ll make you laugh, they’ll make you feel for the characters, and most of all they’ll make you smile because they’re just so darn cute. I highly recommend checking them up.

*Lisa Scott’s Flirts! Collections are available on Smashwords and Amazon websites.
