Step Lightly into a New Year

Updated on January 9, 2016

Step Lightly into a New Year by Diana Pierce

A brand new year means new adventures.

Adventures bound by life’s beautiful surroundings,

Not chaos or torment or suffering from grief,

Will make a new year of fewer adventurists;

We learn from negative lessons,

Just as we learn from positive ones.

Time stands still for nothing.

We must learn to go with the flow.

Step lightly as danger lurks around the bend.

Danger often self inflicted in our own heads.

Beware and not naive of those out to destroy us.

For life is precious beyond an enemy’s grip.

Throw away nothing but dark thoughts,

The light will bring you to a happy place.

Stay focused on the light as if it were sacred,

Because life really is a gift not meant for disgrace,

Nor meant for controlling another’s existence,

But meant to be admired, respected and embraced;

Fear not the love of a higher power,

Fear not affections from true joy,

For only the wicked should walk with fear,

Messages from yesterday shall prevail forever.

Pay attention to what is written in stone.

Those before us have lessons to teach,

Generation after generation meets,

History can repeat itself over and over.

Use caution, step lightly, it’s a new year.

A brand new year of life on earth.

      Thank you, Jodah. Free form is not as hard as I once believed it to be. Perhaps I'll write more of this type of poetry in the future.

      A good message to take into the New Year Diana. We do need to,learn lessons from the past going forward. Nice free form prose poetry.

      Thanks Jackie. This a little different for me as I usually like to use rhyme in my poetry. But thoughts are thoughts.
