Stepping Stones

Updated on January 17, 2012

Each step has a promise

Each stone another inch

Taking me farther and farther

To where I am meant to be

Some are small and easy

Some I can't leap through

Each one is a lesson

To survive through

There are many who cross

Who can be a barrier

They can try and hold me back

Blinding me endlessly

Fighting and keeping on

Is the only way to be free

Through the pit of fire

That has shown itself to me

There are many twists and turns

That I can't see at first

They always take me on a new adventure

To where I am meant to be

In the end we will all be set free

Wild birds that have been caged

For years dying to forever be

Caroline, Absolutely, perfectly beautiful description of journeying through life. Your repetition of "to where I am meant to be" is highly effective and oh, so true. Another all-time favorite for me among your beautiful, thought-filled garden of poetry! You are definitely a muse!

      C21,

Interesting netaphor- stepping stones to get through issues one step at a time..interesting how true, "The journey of 1,000 miles begins with 1 step"-maybe Confucious Lao Tsu...

I loved the way you compare life with stepping stones. Beautiful poem. :)

Just keep laying those stepping stones, as you cross, remembering that they were somehow miraculously laid for you , so in exercising this beauty , lay at least one for your fellow man.

Love when you place your deep thoughts on here in poetry.

      Bless.
