Mind over Soul

Updated on March 22, 2013

Tumultuous river of souls

flowing down scintillating falls;

currents twisting,

spirits writhing;

struggling for false sustenance.

Rushing waters laughing,

knowing spray holding secrets;

boulders break mind's yearning

to shatter self-willed goals.

Driving eddies speed past.

Quiet pools calling,

clear,calming stillness,

soul's understanding

of completeness all the while.

      That one is completely original and it is such fun to go over those old works! Thanks for the kind words phdast7.

      Ryan -- Another good poem...so you can barely remember the boy? :) Last year I pulled out a folder of poems I did at 19. They were OK, pretty good at that the time, but not lyrical enough now. I reworked a couple of them to bring them more into line with how I write now. It was an interesting experience. Hope you have a great weekend.

      Thank you both for the compliments. I wrote this so long ago that I barely remember the boy that wrote them, but yes Fennel, you get the idea of the work.

      The rivers of our souls laugh because they know our lifetime of searching will come to nothing unless we look within? Beautiful poetry Ryan McGill, thank you.

      These lines intrigue me, "spirits writhing;

      struggling for false sustenance"
