Wobble... Totter... Stumble...

Updated on June 19, 2016

We all wobble, totter, and stumble as we grow. And, we sometimes continue to do so throughout our lifetime. Here's hoping you find comfort in knowing there is someone there to hold, guard, catch and love you throughout your life. I wrote this as a tribute to the father my husband was to our children during his life. But, it is not just a tribute exclusive to a father. Substitute anyone who has held, guided, caught and loved us through the years, even if they now reside in your heart.

Wobble, Wobble...Hold Me

As I learn to stand;

With smiles and shivers of excitement;

Relying on your hand.

As I struggle with new wonderment;

Wobble, Wobble… hold me.

Totter, Totter...guard me.

With each brave step I take

while letting go of your hold;

It's your first of many a heartache.

As I learn to be more bold;

Totter, Totter… guard me.

Stumble, Stumble...catch me.

As I learn to find my freedom

and walking on my own;

You struggle with this transom.

As you see I have grown

Stumble, Stumble… catch me.

Father, Father...love me.

As your hand was always needed;

And you have always granted;

Tenderly holding, guiding, catching

Father, Father… love me.

Always, Always...my child.

His answer to your plea..

Look within your heart.

And, the truth you'll see;

Always, Always… my child.

A loving father's hands - he loved us and protected us with those loving hands.

      Awesome! Parents are the most important first teachers and protectors of a child's life. There are no roles set in stone, however, here this tribute is to your husband, but yes, this can be a tribute to any other parental or mentoring role that protects and guides a human's life. Voted up, up and away and shared.

      You know I like it. For its subject matter it has great order. Perhaps that is how things should be.

      There are many times we need someone to hold us, guide us and catch us for many reasons. It is truly a blessing to have that someone. Life is full of changes that take us from dependence to independence and then sometimes back to dependence. What a blessing it is to have the love of a husband during those scary moments of life. Thank you Joyce, for sharing your experience and vote.

      Your poem is great. In fact I know about some of the titles. When my R/A started I thought I was okay until one day couldn't rise from where I was sitting. My husband had to help me and that was scary for me as I've always been independent.

      Voted up awesome and interesting, Joyce
