TENTH INSTALLMENT OF ...THE LAKE...by b. Malin
More of CHAPTER 4
The rest of Monday and Tuesday went along uneventfully...and before Sarah knew it, it was Wednesday. She woke up feeling excited, which Robert sensed. "Everything all right with you honey"? he asked while they were having breakfast. "No I'm fine...I'm just looking forward to starting my piece, what time is the limo picking you up to take you to the airport" she asked gazing lazily at the kitchen clock. He looked up at it too and then checked his Rolex..."Ah in another twenty minutes. I think I'd better go to the bathroom" he said as he rose from his chair and gabbed the Wall Street Journal, which he had brought in from outside earlier, and was still wrapped in it's rubber band. "Really think you have time for both" she said laughing as she pointed to the paper. "What I don't read now, I'll take on the plane to read later" he replied as he tapped her on the head with it as he walked past her chair.
Exactly twenty minutes later he kissed her passionately at the front door, with attache case in one hand, and small overnight bag in the other. I'll call you when we land, it's a direct flight, so I should be there by one...God, I miss you already" he said as he smelled her perfumed hair, as she pressed her swollen body into his. The limo driver lightly tapped the horn as Robert pulled away and ran down the front steps. He looked back as he reached the landing, and thought to himself, she's so beautiful, then he got into the limo and rolled down the window, and blew her a kiss. Which she caught and returned one to him. After the limo pulled away, she stood in the doorway for a few moments until it was completely out of sight. She had no way of knowing that he was looking out the back window at her as well.
He called her when he landed. "I'll be in meetings most of the day. I'm going to grab a bite with Joe Turner at the Hotel when we check in. I don't think I can call you till after eleven tonight when we will be finished with the last meeting"... he sighed. She replied, "Honey, it's ok, really, I'm not a baby, I'll be fine. I'll probably pick up something light to eat from the Inn tonight for dinner. I'm starting to get into my research...and I have an interview or two today...so get a good nights sleep, and call me tomorrow when you can...What time is your flight out"? "Unless anything changes, it will be at two...I'll be home for dinner...and then Mrs. Blake, I have a surprise for you!" "Oh Robert, that's not fair...you can't say that, and not tell me what it is". "Oh yes I can, that's what surprise means" he said laughing..."I gotta go Sarah, love you". "I love you too Robert". "And take care of our baby..."I will Robert, I will".
Jose knocked at the front door at seven p.m. Sarah was beginning to think that he wasn't coming. She opened the front door to let him in. They both felt awkward at first. He was holding a large pizza box, which she directed him to put on the dining room table. Sarah then went into the kitchen to get the salad that she had made, along with two glasses, and a pitcher filled with lemonade, which she placed on a tray to bring to the table. They sat down and opened the pizza box and each took a slice to put on their plate. "So Sarah said, why don't we eat first and then we can talk about Danielle". "Sounds good to me" Jose replied lightly as he took a bite. "Hey this is pretty good" Sarah said as she bit into hers. They each ate about three slices. Then Sarah served the salad. They were done with dinner by seven thirty. She asked him if he wanted coffee or tea..."Coffee might be nice" he replied. "Well I've got to go to the ladies room, Sarah said, but as soon as I'm done...she blushed, I'll put up coffee." "Let me do it, he said standing up...how do you like yours, Sarah?" "Oh black", she said, as she went into her bedroom and shut the door. He went into the kitchen and saw instant coffee sitting on the counter. He smiled to himself...Perfect he thought, as he took down two mugs from the cabinet, and went into his shirt pocket and pulled out two white capsules which he emptied into Sarah's mug, and then added the right amount of coffee to cover it. The water was boiling when Sarah came back. He quickly poured the water into each mug. Then turning to Sarah he said, "Black like you like it" as he handed the mug to her. "Sarah, he said softly, no one knows that I'm here, correct"? "No one knows that you're here tonight Jose, I've kept my promise to you, I hope now that you will do the same" she said, as she started to walk into the living room, holding a pad and pen as she headed for the couch. He smiled to himself, as he followed behind her.
