A Poem: The Man I Am Today.

Updated on February 1, 2015
Nothing more to say.
Nothing more to say. | Source

Thoughts of Mam and Dad.

She was always there for me you know, the woman that was my mam. She helped me all along life's road from a boy unto a man. When life got tough to her I'd go with dad she'd sit me down. I'd tell them what the problem was the answer would be found. I love them still though they are gone that mam and dad of mine. I knew it would be my turn soon with the passing of the time.

Sure enough as time did pass and they did both grow old, I was there to help them through, to me they were pure Gold. They held my hand, they guided me, that's all I want to say, for they stood strong and they made me, the man I am today.

Hi KKG. Thank you for your valued visit and comments. Yes, we should look after those that looked after us. Loving parents are a blessing, unfortunately for so many of us this is not the case.

Beautiful poem, beautiful tribute. It brings tears to my eyes. We can never give back to our parents as much as they have given to us.

Graham, this is a beautiful tribute to your parents. We can never repay what they did for us. Taking care of them when they need us should be our duty.

Hello Debbie. Thank you for your visit. Yes, our parents make us, I was fortunate as I had the most loving mother and father. There love tended to be from afar and undemonstrative to a point. I know that I was loved in so many ways. They gave their all for me, as my wife Pauline and myself have done for our daughter and grandson.

I know you will be strong for your dad, remember he will be strong to help you.

      God Bless.

      Graham.

I love your parents.. they sounds like mine.. I lost my mom and my dad is very sick. I guess I thought they would live forever.. but that's silly isn't it. when life keeps moving on and every year I look in the mirror .. and I look and see my mom

Hi Nell. Thank you for your kind words. We are all what we are by accident of birth. Some are born to wealth, most are not. What we seek in life, is Peace of Mind. We only realise this as time passes and we are able to look back. The family and upbringing matter so much to all of us. Thank you.

      Graham.

Hi Graham-- this poem is very well put together and demonstrates the cycle of love from your childhood to your parents needing the tender love and guidance shown them that they showed you.

I loved the poem! I love men who let their tender, compassionate, loving nature show up in their writing and their lives! All the best, Cynthia
