Taking My Parents Home: A Poem of Loss
I went up to the mountain
To take my momma home
I went up to the mountain
To take my pappa home
Both laid to rest
Alive together
In death alone
I looked at the marker
Placed on each grave
Life once so secure
Now never the same
A sprinkling of tears
A few parting words
I said my goodbyes
It didn't seem enough
For all they did for me
All during my life
I'll miss you momma
I'll miss you pappa
I know the days without you
Will be somewhat sad
But I'll carry your love
Deep within my heart
I'll hold my head high
For I know one day
When my life passes
I breathe my last breath
I will stand beside you
In our eternal rest
I went up to the mountain
To take my momma home
I went up to the mountain
To take my pappa home
